Based on the reflection just below the guy, my guess would be he fell and his board is hidden in/behind the falls. At first I thought he was in the wave. Either way, that looks like a thick one... he got hammered for sure.

Hi John....he's a water photog.....in the wave and just floating in the zone......up and out the back. Didn't go over the falls. The water is very clear in Tahiti and can provide some illusions.... ;)

Exactly^^^^ He's wearing short fins, swim googles, and has his camera strap around his left forearm. No wipe out here. That guy is as comfortable in the face of that wave as we are in the seat of our Porsche.

I get most of these pics from FB - fortunately there are a lot of folks out there well traveled and involved in the sport. I especially love the vintage/classic stuff (I guess since I'm an old guy :)).....for example.....check this shot of Mr. Pipeline......a very casual stall move....about to go limp again in the eye......

Mr. Pipeline! In 1977 I bought a 6' 6" Lightning Bolt pintail signed by Gerry Lopez lightly used for $75. Exactly like this pic. I gave it away when I went off to college. I would give anything to have that back :(

Craig, what's the surf looking like in slocal this weekend? We are heading to Laguna this afternoon, then on to San Diego on Sunday.

Glassy but almost dead flat this morning at C Street and Ventura Overhead. Wasn't even worth putting the wetsuit on for. Came straight home.

Called a friend from Dana Point and he said Salt Creek is 1-3 ft, but onshore and choppy. San Diego may be better.

Just checked Surfline. Sand Diego 1-2' and "poor conditions" throughout the weekend. I'm sorry

Oh well. Still good to get out the 110 degree desert.
