All your device does is retrieve mail from a mailbox. Why introduce the overhead at the device level when it can be dealt with universally at the account level?

How do you do that? I must have missed that class.

Because not all junk mail gets caught by standard rules on the server. E.g. you sign up to be on the mailing list of some organization, then later decide they send you too much email, but you can't seem to get taken off their list. Retailers do this, so do political organizations. It's not "junk" exactly, and in my experience the server side filters don't catch it. This is different than the pure spam e.g. Viagra, penile enhancement, Nigerian transactions, etc. Remember iOS is being developed into a standalone OS, i.e. you may not have a Mac/PC at all, so no convenient way to access the email server and tell it what you want blocked. The processing involved on the device is easy, it just checks the sender against the list of "junk" senders that you've designated. Similar to how it is handled in Mac Mail.

Go to the "new" Photos icon after performing the iOS5 upgrade, there's a plus sign for "add" now.

5 pm and 73% battery. I can live with this. I don't know why battery life has improved. Maybe draining to near zero and recharging helped.

Having issues with email now - though I have it set to check automatically for new mail, it won't update as before. It is a yahoo email account. Anyone experience this as well? Anyone know the fix?

My upgrade wiped out my email settings for sending email. Check your settings...

My exchange (work) account is set to push, my personal accounts are all set to manual Fetch. If the problematic account is set to push check and see if it's pushing the correct folder, should be Inbox.

You mean you hit the home button after checking mail? That won't quit the app, just backgrounds it.

The upgrade to iOS5 broke my Airprint function. With the previous OS I could print to my Windows printer. Now the printer is no longer seen by iOS5. The only solution I have found is to spend 10 bucks on some program that will allow printing.

I did a test where I left the app open (running in background), and sent an email -- in that scenario, the auto notification did work. (But I like to close my apps once I am done with them) -Z

![]() I'll have to hope for an iOS 5 compatible update to the AirPrint Activator in the future. I've got a couple of those other pricey printing apps, but they're a pain in the butt to operate. Also, original iPad users don't get the iOS5 ability to switch between apps with a 4/5 finger hand swipe, or to close apps with 4/5 finger pinch. Tim |

I'm wondering if iTunes 10.5 didn't play a part in screwing this up. My iphone is still on 4.3 and can't see printers now. Maybe Bonjour closed the holes that allowed this to work.
