Hahahaha!

Screw that!

I might be ok with some sort of wildlife relocation that moved him far away from me.

Definitely a tarantula. Pretty harmless to humans. They will bite if you piss them off. This one looks pretty pissed off. I would be too if some gigantor was poking at me with a stick.

I heard they like to hang around creeks and small rivers. Then they jump on the backs of people kneeling in the water.

I had a tarantula as a pet long ago. Totally harmless to people. Mine was about the size of my fist. Was really cool to watch him eat.

Is this the first tarantula you have seen? Every fall we would see them crossing the roads or even on our property growing up in the south bay area. Spiders creep me out.

F**K that.

About thirty years ago, a friend of my room mate's was into "exotic pets". I had no idea, until we went to his apartment one day. There I was, sitting on his couch, when this goddamn tarantula crawls onto my shoulder and starts down my arm. Totally unexpected. Apparently this guy rather enjoyed watching unsuspecting guests' various reactions when "introduced" to one of his pets in this manner.

Well, as things turned out, he didn't like my reaction all that much. I screamed like a little girl, which I'm sure pleased him no end, but I also swatted the damn thing to the floor and stomped it with my motorcycle boot. What a hell of a mess that made...

It took me all of a nanosecond to figure out what just happened, as spiders like that are not exactly native to Washington, at least not our wet side of the state. I was pissed, already out off of the couch, and coming for the clown who used to have a pet spider. My room mate, ever the careful observer, rather quickly took note of the rapidly deteriorating situation and promptly hussled my ass out the front door and down to our bikes.

A few days later said room mate was telling me his friend was demanding I pay for his spider. I told him to inform Spiderman he could come by and ask me nicely for the money any day he felt up to it. I guess that stain on his carpet was actually worth several hundred dollars, even back then. Never did see the guy again, though.

Funny thing is, if the thing had been in its terrarium, or at least on a leash or something, I would have probably thought it was pretty cool.

Crazy thing is that they can jump pretty good too. Back in college my roomate found one on the road in Arizona and brought it back to the dorms as a pet. One day as I was trying to be brave, he placed it on my hand and after 30 seconds or so the damn thing jumped to the desk 5 or so feet away. Scared the piss out of me as I didn't think they could do that. Damn spider had to go back to the wild after that...

I've never seen one jump but that would scare the $hit out of me.

Spider Myths: Some strange beliefs out there

The myth that "there are tarantulas that can jump 3-4 feet" (1 meter) seems to be limited to the American southwest.

Yeah, OK....No!

The body was about the size of a half dollar, and then the hairy, spiky legs.
Maybe 3 inches across?

I hope I don't see it again...
