This is my brother's daily driver.

He has owned that camper since 1977 and the bug since 1979.

I have been itching to get started on my 63 again. I bought it back in 95, a couple of months before I joined the Navy. A buddy and myself painted it and then I ended up going to boot camp. In 97 I went to my first ship which was in Hawaii so I stored my car in my dads barn up in Wisconsin.

Here it is in his barn as of July last year.

Here it is after my brother and I pulled it out and cleaned it up a bit.

I will end up stripping the paint off again and starting over. I would like to get it down to Florida this year so I can finally start working on it again.

No reaL time line, belongs to a friend who moved back to WI after her husband passed, the car remained here to be finished (he was building it for her when he succumbed to Cancer)
The 914..

Back to the VW topic..

My old 64 Baja bug, this was the most fun car I have ever owned.

This was pretty fun too..

My first real car was a '60 Beetle and I miss it. I'd consider trading my '56 Porsche coupe for a really nice swing axle beetle.

If I see a nice car, I always give P cars and Bugs a closer look.

Some very cool cars here. Love the '52 and the ghia! I've had various beetles since 1985. Here's my 911's current stablemate:

And yeah, VW had some of the best ads ever. I've got several of them framed in my garage

Not sure how big this image will be, but its the first Baja bug built, and was used in this ad.

Here's the story on the "build"... by Gary Emory of Parts Obsolete fame.
Original Baja Bug | Emory Motorsports

Oh, and we have a 56 oval that dad bought new at the factory....

Current daily driver, my '70 with a 1776 dual port. It's been my daily for the last decade.

Before that, it was a '71 Super that my younger son now drives. I'll always have a soft spot for Bugs.

In the words of George Takei "Oh My..." That is a nice looking bug.

We all look back on old cars with rose tinted shades. My bug was hot in the summer because the heater was stuck open but cold enough in the winter to have to scrape the insides of the windows while driving. I never got a speeding ticket because it had a hard time getting up anywhere near the speed limit. It stalled all the time and required a strange starting procedure involving all limbs and a carefully rehearsed litany of expletives. But I still would like to have it back.

I have a couple of old tin reproduction VW ad signs in the garage.

back in the early 70s i owned a very nice 56 oval window with semaphores that worked and a slide back cloth top. it had the original 36 horsepower engine. drove it to clinton oklahoma from concord nc in july of 1972....mostly on interstate 40. i can remember watching for 18 wheelers in my review mirror...as they passed i would dart out and draft...the vw would go as fast as the truck! i do remember going into knoxville following a tanker that finally was going so fast that i had to drop back. it felt as if the vw was unattached to the highway and darting side to side depending on the draft. speaking of the draft...pack racing at talladega this weekend!

Back in the early 1980's I had a canary yellow '73 "VW Thing" which I occasionally used to administer punishment to my then 13-14 year old daughter for missing the school bus.
She was totally embarrassed / mortified to be seen in it (between the color and load muffler it was hard to miss) so if she missed the bus did she get a ride to school in the wifes Audi Coupe or my S10 pickup... noooooo, we fired up the Thing and delivered her right to the front door of the High School. Cured her of dawdling around and missing the bus fairly quickly.
