Very sorry to hear - this hits too close to home. I hope he makes it through this okay and that he and his family can move on soon.

I've driven that road, and have had to stop for moose, both in my 911 and on my bike, but until George recovers we aren't going to know what happened - unless one of those he was driving with saw the event.
Anyway, whatever the cause was, you have to be careful in country that wild. There are creatures and hazards of every description that can pop up with no warning. I plan to drive on those same roads again in a matter of weeks, but maybe I'll be a bit more conservative than I have been in the past. We all hope that he recovers fully, and very soon.

I just read these posts about the lap belt. It is for this reason alone that I am a porsche owner, actually. When I was 13 my father bought a 1974 Alfa Spider. 3 years later I learned to drive in it, and then later inherited and restored it. 27 years later, with a young family at home, I was driving down a country 2-lane road when my taillight and dash fuse blew, leaving me thinking how unsafe it was to drive an old convertible with only a lapbelt. Within 6 months I found and bought the only car that could relieve my strong desire to keep the Alfa- my first (and only) Porsche, a shoulder and lap-belted 930 coupe. I thought that someday, perhaps after my kids grew up and left home I might buy the Alfa back. But I'll let that go now. Thoughts and prayers to George.

Awful wreck. As I was told after finding the biggest effing tree within 15 miles of my house with my early car the metal is very soft in these cars. Doesn't take much at all to do that kind of damage.

I was a passenger in an accident last year, when the 73 coupe crashed into a lamppost, snapping it off. Luckily the car had the shoulder belts and I walked relatively unhurt with a few busted ribs. The car is suffered extensive damage and is still being restored. These kind of accidents are just a reminder how a sunday morning drive can take a turn for the worse.
Hope for a speedy recovery

One amazing thing to me is how rugged these little cars are.
Georges car had a factory 100 liter tank - he showed it to us the day before. Took up so much room in the trunk that the spare did not have a strap (but did have the felt cover) - I joked the hood was the strap. Still, I have seen maybe one 911 crashed in front that resulted in a fire. (albeit I do not have a huge data base ) Hope George is doing better as each moment passes.

Any updates on George's recovery? Wishing a speedy recovery and peace of mind for the family.
We had a double fatality here on Kauai a few years ago on our first Porsche drive together. I can totally understand a strong negitive reaction to attempts at humor about this sort of accident among those close to the situation. It seemed no ill will on the part of the posters, just a lack of sensitivity to the feelings of others. Looking forward to hearing good news about George getting better! All the best, Richard |

Folks - this is where he was taken according to media reports. Anyone live near enough to check out his condition? I don't think a hospital can reveal patient condition to anyone outside certain family members.

I was down today, so I tried to do some leg work for the forum. I called that hospital to try to get a room number, so we could send him a card. They told me they had no patient with that name. I wonder if he was moved?

Thank you all ofr the kind wishes. George is in the hospital in Lewiston. He is nodding his head in response to questions but has a long way to go.
