You should only be armed with your wits in a bar. And keeping guns out is only one part of an overall, common sense, ass hole reduction strategy. I've worked plenty of doors in the big city, the last thing on earth you want is private citizens in a crowded/noisy/rowdy place packing heat. The answer to every imaginary dilemma is not stupidity, my friends.

Maybe you should outlaw alcohol, then. It certainly claims more lives than shootings do.

Again, IT IS STILL ILLEGAL TO DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE CARRYING.

Do you propose metal detectors at the door? Bad guys don't obey the law and they certainly don't obey gunbusters signs, which don't carry much more than the threat of a trespassing cite.

It's been legal in AZ for about three years and with a bunch of silly conditions and exceptions that got the bill passed when the NRA got involved and screwed it all up. You must have a CCW to carry in a place that serves for on-premise consumption, no open carry. (You don't need a permit to CCW in AZ otherwise.) If the venue wants to ban guns, they have to have a very specific, state-issued sign at the door and next to the liquor license, and you are allowed to walk in to look for said sign or pick up your take-out order before you're considered in violation. Here's the kicker - the law does not apply to non-AZ residents. So a cool-head like Speeder could legally carry in a guns-banned bar here, while a real hothead like myself cannot.

That said, I've never heard of a single incident. The worst that can happen, if you get made, is they ask you to leave and, if you make a stink, you get a trespassing cite and take your business elsewhere.

You can't drink while armed, but you can have a .07 BAC and be perfectly legal behind the wheel, driving home from the bar AND armed. That keeps us all safe, eh?

But that is exactly what you are suggesting.

In Texas, that law is that you can't carry if you are legally drunk, exact same level as driving 0.08% BAC.

And it's illegal to drink & drive, and even drink if you aren't 21...so what is your point?

I'm trying to understand how a gunbusters sign equals an "a-hole reduction strategy." Show me a clip book of news stories about legal gun carriers starting fights in bars. How about an interview with someone who started a bar fight and admits to having left his gun in his car, so as to otherwise be in compliance with the law before getting drunk and starting a fight?

The chief name-caller on PPOT/PARF seems a little outraged that he may start a fistfight that ends in a gunfight. There's a simple solution there and it has nothing to do with guns.

I see open carry's in Kentucky, not on the street but in businesses. i've got a CCP but NEVER do if I go out for a "pop". Have a friend that got nailed for not comming to a complete stop at a stop sign. He blew hot and was packin' and has, or rather had, a CCP. He beat the DWI thing because of a custody issue with the blow machine & no dashcam movie to support the officer. But the law here sez you packin & drinkin' ( any amount) ain't a good thing. He's got the money for a good attorney and is still working the charges with the courts.

The old law prohibited CCW not just in "bars", but "Any establishment where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed". So if you were going out to dinner, and the restaurant sold wine, you couldn't carry.

The "OMG GUNS IN BARS !!!!!!!" folks are just trying to scare people. The reality is that nothing will change.

The people who get concealed carry permits are not a crime problem, period. Their crime rate is roughly equal to that of police officers.

To be clear for those that may have missed it: IT IS STILL ILLEGAL TO DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE CARRYING.

Business owners are able to prohibit carrying on their property, (because that worked out so well in Aurora CO).
It is also illegal to drink while driving..

A local bar use to have an "Urban Nite" and they did bring out metal detectors at the door for those nights..

Which explains his stance on the Zimmerman verdict.

They updated Ohio's cc law so you can carry in bars in Ohio now. But as part of the change, now all ANY business owner has to do is put up an appropriate sign and it is illegal to carry in his establishment, so it means nothing.

Even with all the dumb ass new laws here in Ct. you can still carry in bars as long as you aren't drinking, (but why go in a bar?

That's pretty much how it is here. It's a simple private property rights issue. I could put a no smoking or no guns sign on my door. All it does is cover my butt if someone ignores it and then makes a fuss when I ask them to leave. If they give no backtalk and comply with my request to leave, then no harm, no foul. If I don't know they're doing something against my wishes/rules, then ditto - no harm, no foul.

That this will do nothing. People that jump through the hoops to get a CCW are not, nor have they ever been the problem.

Nope...I just believe in reasonable controls. May I ask, why would one "desire" to go into a bar (without drinking) and "carry". "Because I can"....just doesn't sit too well with me when it comes to guns and bars.

ps: I'm specifically talking about drinking establishments (over 18/21 to enter). Restaurants and other places are a different matter imo.
