I bought this freezer at an on-line auction. I bid $75 and that's what it sold for. After looking up what it is, turns out it's a freezer that gets lab specimens down to -40 deg! Sells new from Thermo Scientific for $4,500. It's brand new, but has a dent in one corner and was returned.

Not sure what I need to cool to -40, but there it is!

My Dad could certainly afford to buy a pair of Bally shoes, but it was only in the last couple of years of his life that he broke down and spent the money to buy a pair ON SALE. Yet for what he spent on one pair of Bally's back in the mid 80's I have 15 pairs of largely NEW Ballys.

If he knew that he could find Bally's in a Thrift or at a yard sale for a couple of bucks he would not be adverse to purchasing them. As a matter of fact a lot of people who live in toney neighborhoods buy used shoes... Figure it out, you buy a pair of $1200 Versace ankle boots for $12...you still have $1188 left in your pocket and nobody knows that you bought them in a Thrift for $12 when you are at a posh soiree in your toney hood. All that the people think when they see you is that guy must be really rich? And you are cause you still have that $1188 (and all the other $1188's) in yer pocket.

What it comes down to is that you gots the goods which you paid little for and would otherwise have had to depleted your bank account (at least a bit) to buy. Which means that you are all that much more rich, cause you still have the dinero in your pocket. Until you grasp that concept you ain't never truly gona be rich...cause the trick in staying rich is in how to keep it and also get what you want.

*A lot of old timers would not be adverse to wearing used shoes for themselves, but for their kids they would never impose that upon them...they wanted to give their kids what they never had (and thought they would be happy)..In that America created generations of spoiled and entitled people. "I WON'T wear someone else's stinky old shoes, I can AFFORD NEW ONES, I am a rich and prosperous American."

Americans lost sight of the fact that conspicuous consumption does not lead to happiness nor contentment. My parents Generation that grew up with out, felt as kids that if they only had that new pair of shoes they would be happy. They then gave their children new everything including shoes, thinking that would make their kids happy campers. It doesn't quite work that way, but what it has led to are generations of Americans chasing happiness through material acquisition.

Just scored a huge lot of vintage license plates and a pair of very special personalized/vanity Porsche related plates last registered in Washington circa 1977.

I didn't realize there was such an active market for them until poking around on Ebay.

It would be fun to experiment with figuring out how long it takes to make a can of beer go from room temp to 33 degrees.

Your response ^^^ just reaffirms my thinking and makes it become even more negative. Now I can add less than intelligent to the list... a veritable poster boy for promoting remedial education....with a warning label across the front that says..."DO YOU WANT TO GROW UP TO BE LIKE THIS"

Scored this for $1800, drives like a dream. Except for cracked dash, interior is a 9.5. Auto shifts amazingly smoothly. Even windshield squirters work! Bought it as a parts car for my M5 restoration, but too nice to cut up, so a friend is buying it for his daughter.

Our local landfill (operated by the county) has an area where household chemicals can be dropped off and they put them on shelves and are available for the taking. I always check it out when I'm there unloading my landscape trailer.

Today picked up some useful stuff....2 full gallons of sealer, liquid iron, a quart of oil, some 2 cycle oil, marine polish (full bottle), various insecticides, some paint, Murphy's soap, snail pellets, and a few other things.....

I got the same one in blue with a stainless top for $3500, delivered, off craigslist last year. Matches my old one. might as well have 2 for that price.

Some Snap-On dealer put his kids through college over selling these boxes, and tools. I understand that they are mechanic's grade, but $13,700 for a freaking tool box ?

You can get them for around $8K if you have a decent dealer. Still too damn much.

Found this 5 gallon pure copper moonshine still at the dumpster. Posted it on eBay and it's already up to $210. Why would somebody throw this out? They go for about $500 new.
