G'day!

Look what I scored today....a (gently) used 17mm combo wrench for only $1!
I had about 3 hours to kill while waiting for the Volvo headliner replacement so went on walkabout, just like I did a week ago when she got window tinting. There's a large flea market a couple blocks away so that was the first place I went. I needed this for the oil drain plug on the Volvo....

![]() ![]() ![]() Ok, I didn't find it, but after 90 days if it is clean, I will get it back. Ok, here is the story on the AR-15 above. Last Friday I was at a friend's business, when one of the regulars came in. He was all nervous as he found a gun in the middle of the road at a intersection. When he 1st said the road, I assumed that it was in a very, very High crime area in Jacksonville, but it turned out to be in other end of that road, which is more redneck than criminal. He didn't know if it was real, thought maybe a paint ball gun or airsoft. We all walked out to his car and, at 1st glance, because of the size of the barrel, it seemed to large in diameter to be a 223, but once I got close enough, and held it in my hands, it was obviously clear that it was a AR-15. After establishing that it was a real gun, I snapped a picture of the serial number and sent it, with a discrimination of how it was found to a few friends either current or retired law enforcement, asking what the next step should be. So we go back inside and wait for a response, well, it didn't take long, take it to a Police sub station. Here is when it should have been done, but the guy who found it is really uncomfortable around guns and really didn't want anything to do with it, so I tell him that I will handle it Buy the time I get home, my friend who is current law enforcement, texted me back that it wasn't on a list or reported stolen, but that I needed to contact JSO ASAP. Now is when it starts getting complicated, this was Friday afternoon, and I called the non email number, it rang for close to 2 minutes and cut me off. So I called again, and it rang and rang, but someone finally answered. Now the fun starts, I explain to the officer that someone I know found a gun in the middle of an intersection, was very uncomfortable around guns, so I want to turn it in and that way, if it was used in a crime, it might help solve or close the case, or if it was stolen, the rightful owner could get it back. I tell the officer, I am in Orange Park, but it was found in Jacksonville. At this point, she tells me that I need Clay County sheriff since I am in Clay County, but the gun was found in Duvall. She gets Clay County on the line and I am immediately cut off. Well, I figure, the Orange Park Police department is just down the street from me, so I wrap up the AR-15 in a towel, put it in the car and head down. Should be very easy, I found a gun and want to turn it in So I go in, knock on the glass, tell the story again, starting at the beginning, and tell her that the gun is in my car, she asks me where it was found, I told her Duvall, at that point, she tells me that they can't take it, I have to turn it in to Duvall and I tell her, that I called Duvall and they told me to turn it in down here Well, again, she tells me that they can't take it, grabs a piece of paper with a list of phone numbers and email addresses for the JSO sub stations AND MARKS the one I need to call. Well, as I pull out of the Orange Park Police department, I have my law enforcement friend on the phone, explaining to him what happened and I see a police officer in the parking lot, so I roll down the window, and yet again, tell him the entire story and that I have the AR-15 in the car to turn in, all while my friend is listening. The office replied that he couldn't do anything and that it had to be turned in in Duvall to JSO. By now, it is 5pm, so I call the number that the Orange Park Police department gave me, well, yet again. I go through the whole thing and tell the officer I just want to turn it in, and if it was used in a crime, hopefully it would help solve it, if clean, as unclaimed "Found " property I would like it back . Well, at this this point, he asked me how I got the number, as it was the JSO Internal Booking number. I explained that the Orange Park Police department gave it to me on a printed sheet. Well, he asked me if I could meet an officer in Duvall, I said yes, I would meet him at the elks lodge , as that is a very public place near the county line, he asked me about how long before I could be there. I explained roughly 10 minutes, but the 5 o'clock traffic had to be considered and then he told me that he couldn't send an officer until I was there and to call back. Well, I got to the elks lodge and called back, and of course, someone else answered and when I tried to tell him what was going on, he very sharply asked where I got the number, as it was the internal booking number and civilian aren't supposed to have it. So yet again, I explain how I got the number and start yet again, from the beginning and explain the situation, by now he isn't upset, and tells me that the number I need to call is ***-***-****. So as soon as I hang up, I call and a recorded message says if you know your parties extension, press it now. If you need to search, enter their name, which of course I had neither, so I pressed 0, well another recorded message tells me that no one is available and to leave a message, so yet again, I go through the story, leaving my name and phone number. Well, I continued to call through out the weekend and Monday and Tuesday, I ever sent a email with the serial number, pictures of the gun and serial number and my contact info, and I screen shotted each step, and of course put the gun back in my safe. As with my luck, I would be trying to get it to JSO and get T-boned again and the AR-15 would have been used in a crime and I would be charged with that crime. So I called the downtown, non emergency number again (remember. This is where the fun started) and once again, I explained the entire situation, about leaving messages and sending emails as well, and the officer suggested that I take it to the substation, that I originally wanted to go, but was told that they don't take walk ins anymore, and I mentioned that and he said that I would have to call and request an officer when I get there. Well, it was close to 7pm, I was tired and sore, but I was informed that I needed to get it turned in ASAP. So I am heading that direction, and as I passed the Navy base, I noticed a car accident with a few police cars there, so I make a U turn and pull up behind them with my flshers on, it was a turning lane to the commercial gate for the Navy base, and the gate was closed. Well, I wait until the office comes up, keeping both hands very visible and when he gets there, I explain that I was headed to the substation to drop off a found gun, and he informed me that it was closed, so I explained the entire situation, yet again, but he informed me that he COULDN'T take the AR-15, but I would have to wait somewhere for an officer, yet I again. I said I guess that I could wait at the store parking lot, but then he said he would make a phone call. He comes back, tells me his supervisor is coming out and too pull in front of his cruiser so I would not get rear ended. After about 15 minutes, the supervisor showed up, and both approached my car, my hands of course, clearly visible, told them the AR-15 was in the back, he asked me to get out and open it up for him. So I got out, they were walking to the back, I informed them that it was in the back seat, waited for them to get back, and slowly opened the door and pointed to the AR-15 wrapped in a towel, stepped back and let him get it. Remember, this is Tuesday night, I started trying to turn it in Friday afternoon, and again, from the beginning, explained the situation and that I have left messages, etcetera and and he thanks me for my diligence in getting it turned in, and I asked if, as found property, if it wasn't used in a crime, if no one claims it, that I would like it back. He informed me that he would list me as the person who can claim it if everything is clean on it. Wednesday, JSO returned my call from Friday, and I explained that I have turned it in and gave him the case number, supervisors name and badge number. Who knew that trying to do the right thing would be so challenging. I am getting with a musician friend and we are going to try and make a version of Alice's Restaurant from my experience.

Boy Howdy on that! If I had to guess, Byron won't see that gun again.
Baz...good score. Youtube is full of videos of people making some impressive tool hauls via garage & estate sales, flea markets, etc. "Professional"...LOL! Tool makers seem to love that phrase. If it's a made in USA old craftsman, move the score from "good" to "great". SK made a "professional" line for Craftsman that was satin and/or polished back in the day.

I got these two Acrow props from my favourite shop, the dump shop. I have a job where I need to hold largish sheets of aluminium up against the ceiling in my old garage, while I place joists under them. A two person job, but can be done by one person with a few tools like these.

Guys,
Another police department can’t take a report from something that didn’t happen in their jurisdiction. Makes sense. Best thing to do would be to go to the town it was found and call that police department and have them meet you there, which is what happened in the end.

the local state troopers have a phone number where you can run gun serial numbers. it's intended to help private parking lot sales.
you will get one of three responses. the sale is approved. the sale is not approved. stay where you are, we'll be there in a minute.

Not Craig’s List but found at a local Goodwill up the road from us. Very fortunate the wifey went for a drive and stopped. Got all theee prints for a blistering sum of $30 for these a few more things.
I’m at work and looking at pics she sent me, so I was shocked to see that Dick Best actually signed the lithograph of his run… ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you look closely, there's an Allen wrench in the post of the tall chair keeping it at the height it's at.
A poor man's hitch pin! BTW....nice score on the aircraft prints, Trevor! ![]()
