Opinion please: New Jaguars.

What is the opinion of Jaguars current offerings? Specifically the Performance models... S..... I believe is the model designation, example: F type coupe S model....

They are good looking.

I personally would never own a British car but that is just my opinion on reliability of British cars.

They are probably okay if you stay close to home meaning that I would want to be close to a dealership if something went wrong. I would want a new one and have the warranty.

I do agree that they are strikingly good looking cars but pretty is as pretty does...

For myself I am considering a new BMW.

I haven't driven the F Coupe S, but I've driven a good bit of stuff from their current offerings, including the F Conv, XKRS and XJR.
They're fast....quite fast. The F handles surprisingly well and leaps above the XK line.
IMO, no one really comes near Jag for interior feel right now. God knows how they'll still be holding up in a few years though, Jag has had issues with that in the past.

A long time ago my brother decided to buy a brand new jag.
I told him:

Same crap in a beautiful new wrapper.
Buy two of em so you can drive one while the other is in the shop.
Wait for 5 years, you'll be able to buy a used one for under $10 grand.

He said I was wrong.
THIS generation of jaguar is different!

I walked around the car and pointed out something that had fallen off the car in the 5 mile trip from the dealer.

in 5 years the car was basically totalled because the repair bill was more than it was worth. He donated it to charity with less than 60,000 miles on it.

There have been many generations of jags since then, and IMO the only thing they've done exceptionally was depreciate.

Maybe this generation is going to be different!
Color me skeptical.

Soon to be father-in-law has an 08 XF with 80k miles. Zero issues and it's a great car to drive.

I don't know if the same will be said for the 2012 Maserati Quattroporte S he just picked up.

I'm leery as well. But that F type S is probably the best looking car on the market today.

I heard they follow the same repair formula as the Lotus Esprit Turbo. For every mile driven is a dollar in maintenance. Youzer!!!

Love it! But not crazy about the red interior...and I prefer the coupe.

The F-Type is beautiful and has what has to be the best factory exhaust note under $100k. Jag actually made reliable cars when they were under Ford ownership in the 1990s and early 2000s, but I'm not sure how much of that has carried over to today.

Agreed - the F is beautiful in person. Tempting but in the same way as a heroin habit.

I think the new Jags are beautiful inside and out. Depreciation is a killer. My only data point on reliability is a family member with a 2010 XF (not an S) that has stranded the driver multiple times (3 times in 18 months) with ignition problems.
