Knocked it off the kitchen table. I think she tripped over the power cable. SSD so, no loss of data.

So I brought out my old Dell Latitude E6500. It hasn't been turned on in almost 3 years. Battery is dead, but $19 will bring a replacement. Since it has been a while, I tried to update everything. For some reason, Win 7 Pro didn't want to get the updates. Figured, what the hell, and decided to install Windows 10.

I copied my mail files from the X1. Uninstalled any software I'm not going to use and the older version of Office. Upgraded to 10, installed Office 365. Had to re-install AV. Seems good to go.

It was a top of the line Laptop from 2009/2010. Dual Core T9600 Processor and 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD drive.
Update - I'm pretty frustrated with my old laptop. It is NOT Windows 10. The freaking websites today with all of the ads and videos are sucking the life out of the CPU. I pull up a website and the CPU usage goes from 20% to 90%+.

OK, another W10 question, my old computer died, so I bought an HP all-in-one with W10. I'm restoring with Carbonite. It loaded to my recovery "D" drive, not the "C" and filled it up. I deleted the restored stuff in the "D" drive, now I want to clean out my trash. How do I do that?

Are you asking how to empty the recycle bin on D: ? If you change the folder view options and "show protected and operating files" and "show hidden files and folders" you should see a "$recycle.bin" now.

You can delete the content from that folder and clean it up. Why it's not synchronized with the main recycle bin I can only assume has to do something with the issues you had during your install?

Thanks, I used to have Vista, so this is totally different. Still figuring it out. Wifi printer, and router, etc. I turn on a computer and point and click, beyond that, I'm sort of lost.

The "upgrade" was free, is WIN10 free as well to a new setup?

What I saw, the moment I went to microsoft's website when building my computer a few months ago, is that Microsoft plans on running an "app store" so to speak, every program you buy or want to use, Microsoft will get a cut. I am not 100% sure, but this was my impression.

Finally! The screen arrived yesterday. I've had the replacement keyboard for a while, but it seemed pointless to install it until the screen was here.

Mmmmmmmm. Like being home from a long business trip. The keys are in the right places, the spacing predictable...new keys...so smooth...

Every 10 minutes or so, Adobe Flash 19.0 and COMsurrogate exe starts running on this computer.
(Flash is set to "ask to activate")

MS Security Essentials and Malwarebyes both say this is kosher.

Anyone else experience this on Win7?

It may be one of those "check for updates" tasks. You can go through the startup list and kill things like that. I had to do that for Chrome.

Win10 tried to sneak in AGAIN. I disabled that "optional" update, and now Windows Update won't even install security patches.

I'd love to go to Linux on this thing (Lenovo Yoga 13) but I gave both Ubuntu and Fedora a spin via LiveUSB and neither behaved well.

I'm starting to feel like a Christian Scientist with appendicitis.

Is this as intended, or are you seeing an anomaly? I'm perfectly happy with Win7, but kinda wouldn't mind giving 10 a shot; however, if I'm going to lose my Office '10 (or '13...not sure what I've got, honestly), then that's a deal breaker. I can get 365 for free since I'm a "student" but I really don't want to have to deal with having to "update" (pay) for Office every year. It does what I want it to do, so no need to upgrade, IMO.

I installed Win 10 on my 8.1 computer over the weekend. Took about 1/2 hour. I did the "custom" and not "express" install so I could control what would automatically load. Also allows you to click on the "don't automatically send" reports and information about you. Everything working just fine.

From what I've read/heard, Win10 is MUCH less of a POS than Win8. I'm still running 7 on my laptop; that's the only reason I'm undecided about "upgrading." If I were using 8...I'd have upgraded the minute it was available.

windows 10 disabled my computer dvd drive and the scan software driver for my deskjet 4500 printer. this computer is not old....... XPS 14Z..... WAS working great before I switched over.

the "quick install" loads up with a metric ton of **** you do not need. Including software that wants to charge you for delivering drivers you can get for free on the web. You actually have to delete the particular application to get any drivers off the web.......... stuff acts like a bridge troll.

I am beginning to hate this company as much as I detest the apple garbage.

I think I have removed most of the bull**** "features" it, but not sure.

I tried to revert back to windows 7 and it would not work.

I am not a satisfied customer
