Has anybody driven the 2016 Miata yet.....

I know they are not a Porsche but I am sure they will sell lots of them. It should turn out to be a headache free fun car. Small, manoeuvrable and not so attention getting as a Porsche.

They have just started arriving in Mazda showrooms here and are priced at $40k can or about $30K US. Will wait until spring to look at a used one. Way too much for a new Miata.

They look like spectacular cars, and are more attractive in person. My dad has a 2013 with the sport package that is a really fun car, and the new ones are even better. Pretty amazing that they were able to make it lighter than the carbon fiber Alfa 4C at a much lower price point, and without using any advanced materials.

I think they have done a great job on the redesign. It is actually shorter and narrower than the previous generation. I could see having one for a daily driver except for the lack of trunk space.

My first-generation Miata just topped 200,000 miles. Runs like new, with nothing more than basic maintenance,

One of the all-time great cars.

My first-generation Miata is holding at 193,000 sitting in my garage waiting for Hagerty to catch up.

That's a fair assessment but it's a great looking car nonetheless.

Why couldn't any other manufacturer make their version of the Miata? It seems like they have that segment of the market all to themselves.

Definitely a cool sporty for only a base price $25,000! What's interesting is looking back to the first gen MX5 in 1989 having a base of $14,000. This 2016 is a bargain.

Looks handsome in Meteor grey.

About the only thing wrong with it. That, the stupid looking nav screen and only being available in red and 6 shades of gray.

That's because they're made for the 50 Shades of Grey crowd.

Personally, I think it looks like a shrunken down Jaguar F-type, especially in the rear. I'm in OC and in my community, there's a gent who had a manu. plated one since early spring, so I've had a lot of eyeball time on these things. I love the lines of the car, but upon closer examination there are some weak points. My biggest gripe would be the tail light housing. While unlit it looks OK, but when the bulbs light up, they look woefully outdated. Another is severe orange peeling in the paint. Woof.

Still, at $25K, it isn't too bad of a proposition. I was considering waiting before I pulled the trigger on my Cayman.

Do they all have that NAV thing? I don't see it listed on the base Sport. I would have hoped its not on that model.

Dig the cloth interior. No sweat in the warm, top down season.

6 speed manual- check
no traction control gizmo - check
155 hp, 2300 lbs - check
chain driven DOHC - check
ally hood and rear deck lid - check
glass rear window for soft top - check

the usual good warranty

For a brand new fun toy, sure seems like a good package and bargain.

I'd still love to get my hands on the 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5 (it was a turbo for that one year only - think of the tuneability of a Miata turbo...)

There was the Honda S2000, the Pontiac Solstice, and the Saturn Sky.

And none of them are still in production. Seems like Mazda got it right and just keeps going.

Wasn't the Solstice and the Sky the same car with different bodies?

the 2016 Miata does look like a sweet ride.

the MSMs are actually pretty ****ty.

a normal 1.8L VVT car with a turbo kit is cheaper, and far far better.

the new miata though looks excellent. i love my NA, one of the best cars ever made. just one of those cars that is perfect as it sits. when it blows up, im just gonna buy another.

Apologies but none of the cars you listed were "Miata like".

Good looking, reliable and cheap open top sports car!

To answer the OP question, no I haven't, but it looks (visually and via the spec sheet) pretty darn spectacular. I've had 3 miata, '97, '01, and '04 factory turbo. I really loved them all, great cars.

They made 4000 in 2004 and something like 1528 in 2005, then the factory burned down. 2004 was available in Red or Gray, 2005 was available in Black, Red, Gray, and a funky coppery orangy color. There is a lot of tuning that can be done on the turbos, but probably not as much as with an N/A miata with a turbo kit.

I had a 2004 MSM in Velocity Red Mica paint with the leather seats and canvas top (the GT option) and really enjoyed it. Tobra has a Gray MSM.

Solstice and Sky were essentially Miata competitors. The S2000 was in a higher class.

That's a bit harsh. They weren't that bad. Actually, the MSM was better in many ways than a non-turbo. But I also really enjoyed my naturally aspirated.

Absolutely, bolting a turbo kit on an n/a miata is better in many ways than getting an MSM.

+1 Peter

And one can keep the '04 turbo version too.

Just a little ball of fun runt that hopefully all you'll ever need to do is change the oil and brake pads. Its the 60's British budget roadster but the Japanese factored quality where it counts.
