Should this young guy have done more to help this old man?

Well that was entertaining thanks. He was critical of the old guy but he himself thinks it is okay doing wheelies down the road. The 3 to 6 minute part was okay. He was trying to help.

Oh yes the question. There was nothing more he could have done for the old man. The young fellow has to successfully live as long as the old guy. It could be a problem for him.....

Take the helmet off and show the skeptical old man that you are not a hells angels or an alien and that you are just a normal guy trying to help.
The dude's heart was in the right place, he just didn't know how to be effective.

And to think that old man is out there somewhere, driving around like that - and to make matters worse, there are many, many more like him. Someone is no doubt aware of his senility (his kids, his doctor, or pretty much anyone who knows him) and is never the less allowing him to continue to drive. That someone needs to do him (and everyone else) a favor, and take away his keys before he kills or injures someone.

+1 I "guess" that kid was trying to help but he did a horrible job.

He kept his helmet on because he (subconsciously and selfishly) was more interested in the video than his fellow man who needed some help.

That's why we had to sit through 3 minutes of wheelies first.

After riding for 18 years I can say: good for him wearing a helmet. When you wear one you stop noticing it. So it tends to stay on longer. Plus it was a dynamic situation. Taking a helmet off, where to put it, putting it back on. I can see not taking it off; that wasn't the issue.

As for the wheelies. Well just be glad your young life wasn't recorded and posted for the world to see.

Jesus christ, are you going to enroll him in auto shop to explain why his engine is about to seize? The old man clearly has no idea where he is, nor can he hear you talking through your faceguard.
Would it have killed Moto-boy to get off his bike, reach over, and turn off the key? If the old man resists, at least you tried to help. Yes, I know, everyone in 'Murica is going to get sued.

It takes an assertive person to reach your hand into the car of an obviously befuddled old man and pull the key out of the ignition. There are few absolutes, but the kid on the motorcycle here is a classic example of a boy-man living in fear, and lacking action and intent. He is floating through the situation, failing to impose himself even though its the right thing to do. He hustled only when he saw the man driving down the street, fearing a catastrophe. Fear is his dominating emotion. I'm sorry to say that in my experience, this lack of intent and action is especially common among millennials. The utterly feckless “assistance” accomplished absolutely nothing, and he clearly only cared about filming for his Youtube channel.

God that yute was annoying. Besides reaching in to shut the car down and take the keys (likely a bad idea, might be perceived as assault or theft, but I guess he has the helmet cam as evidence), maybe call authorities sooner? Events like this often fall under the category of, no good deed goes unpunished.

Forget about the wheelie's for a minute, he's a kid.

How many young adults are trained to react in this situation?
Does the kid know anything about dealing with mental health issues?
Vin you are trained to react , so does that mean everyone who isn't trained to react as you is a douche?
What if the old guy has a weapon and he believes he's being attacked?

The kid has no clue how to deal with this situation, he phoned 911, gave the licence and told them where he was. That's more than most kids and a lot of older people will even do these days.
Personally other than stick around till the cops came that's likely all I would do.

My co worker lives next door to a 101 year old that still drives. A few weeks ago a couple approached him in the parking lot at the grocery store. He couldn't figure out why his car wouldn't go forward. He had it in park. They attempted to take him home, he refused. They proceeded to follow him home and reported the issue to my co worker. This man's kids have been trying everything to get his keys taken away in the state of Idaho to no avail.

Some things were good: practing in an empty parking lot. I used to do that. Especially hard, threshold braking. Only real place to do that as safely as you can. (It paid off many times)

He noted someone tore up the grass and not doing it himself.

Noticed the car in the lot and was very respectful, before it got weird. Being pretty observant of something not right. Following up and keeping him in sight. Calling 911. Good things.

Caring about the old dude.

Actually trying to help without being too scary to the old man. He kept his distance and did not rush the guy. Some may say he could do more, and others will point out that can go very wrong, quickly. Like old guy taking off and dragging the young dude. Camera doesn't really help then.

Sure, wheelies down a busy street is not really brilliant. And his choice of words sound strange to us. But I got his point. So did the old man, but he was not comprehending anything. Being lost in a parking lot speaks volumes. Wailing a curb, and then not reacting to the cloud of oil smoke, red warning light, or wondering why a young dirtbike dude is flailing at your car. Poor old man is probably done driving. Sad.

On the whole, the young kid went beyond the norm, was caring, and did good things. He actually tried. Far more than most people.

Needs to learn about street wheelies though....
