Engine Masters (youtube) did a very interesting dyno test of headers versus 'crushed headers'.

It was amazing how much damage they had to do to the headers before output dropped off.

The reverse is likely true. More sound than horsepower.

I had a hopped up early '60s 'stang in HS, with a nice 289. I put some kind of white powder coated headers on it (along with a lot of other mods) and the guy helping me get them in insisted that on the driver's side, we pound the engine compartment side wall in about 1" in one area, rather that try to pound the header flat.

juan. Thank you so much for the compliment. I worked for 5.5 years, transforming the car form a completely stock, all original '76 to what it is today.

I did every bit of it myself, my own two hands, in my driveway, and then later on, painted once I had built the garage around it.

While I have my eye on a few barn finds here in my area, I will not ever part with this one. (fingers crossed guys, right?)

so how about the 3.0L you had? was it pretty much stock?

And how does somebody rationalize going from a 3.0 to a TT993....because the 3.0 was too much to handle? That's not true is it?

I see what you are doing here.

Once I fixed the sloppy distributor on that engine, it was singing like the detuned, passive injected, RS motor it really is. In fact, that engine, along with a pair of these "SSI" headers that some are or really aren't talking about on occasion in this thread at times, would be really really fun in an early (or even later) 911. Maybe like one of the ones I know about here locally that might be in my possession soon. Maybe I should have held on to that one, uh?

Then again, there was usually a drop of oil on the floor under it. I couldn't really have that now, could I. Which reminds me......It's time for gramps to go get under his engine and polish the oil return tubes with a tooth brush and some 6K grit paste.

I just couldn't stand the fact that there are some folks here who might disapprove of the fact that its been a week since I last attended to them. Oh the shame.....

I rebuilt the original 78 big ported SC motor in the winter of 12/13 with a case split, all new main & rod bearings, installed the euro higher compression mahles topped off with a set of 46mm PMO carbs broken in and dyno tuned by jwe. the class rules required use of OE cams and we had to run on 91 octane pump gas. when dyno'd it made 254hp at the crank.

I gave up the racing after six seasons as the costs were no longer sustainable. I was spending between $10-12k per year for six or seven race weekends with tires, entry, brakes & transmissions work every two years even after the car had been developed. so, the other 45 weekends a year the car sat in the garage waiting to go on the trailer... it was brutal.

found the tt (its a 996tt) and paid exactly what I got for the spec racer and have been enjoying it most every weekend since the 1st of the year. it is one monster of a car above 3500 rpm instilling little confidence with the lean of the stock suspension. I have to this point put semi solid motor & trans mounts, have a set of adjustable ARB's that I am going to install this weekend. working toward a full coilover set up, but there are a number of $500-1000 bits required for the CO swap that I am installing incrementally to spread the cost out. the ARB, front tower monoballs, adjustable drop links to name a few. will get it out to the track in the next couple months for the first time for some DE lapping. some rides to scare friends and family a bit.

as the video shows IMO I handled it quite capably. if anything, to this point the tt is a bit much to handle, but in time it too will be conquered on a track where drivers go to drive a fast car fast.

hey, about the 2 minute mark, the worked there with the grey car on your right was really nice.
When I watched it last night, I actually had to stop and rewind it because, I thought I had missed something. Very cool, calm driving juan.

I saw the 03 and for some reason must have thought it a 993. Anyway, I have a friend in Atlanta who has one of the TT996, and yeah....it's fast for sure.

I would bet that car is going really go once you get it to where you want it to be.....

any pics of videos of it? Do you think you'll document with pics your suspension work?

chris, thanks for the appreciation of my work where I note at the outset that it's the most peacefoo moment of the day is so very true. all the butterflies that would have been fluttering around my gut the previous couple hours all dissipate right then and there.

if you've got an hour to kill check the build thread for my car here >>>>> the plunge! please excuse the writing in thread. by the time I came in to the computer to document a day's or weekend's work I fir sure had a few, in some cases a few too many...

a couple shots of the new to me turbo.. some work shots from my pops' garage and then a glam shot in his driveway.. the third one is not glam, but was out on a canyon carve I did a few weeks back.






no video from the tt yet. ive only road driven it so there's not really anything worth collecting... im no street racer

When I finished reading Bafoon's post, All I could think about was standing on the side of the road with my little girl, and being in a state of panic by what he says he did. I was thinking of how just that morning I sat on her bed listening to her breathing before I left for work. I started thinking of what is something had gone wrong for this guy and he accidently wiped this family out? What if instead of them, it was my wife and daughter here in TN that was plowed into by some manic in a porsche.

I mean, like I've said, I am sure we all make questionable decisions on the road at times, perhaps we drive faster than we should, take those chances that almost always work out. No harm no foul...

but then to freaking brag about this particular situation? On WAYNE'S SITE? I just had to open my mouth. Glad I did.

I didn't even know this Bafoon existed. I had never notice any of his threads in the past. (now I know why, they really are not of any technical value, and surely did not play any part in the development of my car....)

I looked him up, checked out a little of his history on this BBS. It's not much of one.

hey hey, that one is black on black right? If I could have any combo on the 996, that would be it. That is (just my opinion) the quintessential example of the 996 era of the 911!!
