He is an awesome car guy, the thread should have never gone off on a tangent that he sucks or that his voice sounds like an alley cat getting raped by a pitbull.

And I think Bob Sharp owned the Datsun/Nissans Newman raced.

While the Paul Newman provenance drove the price that car is actually as famous for being the Apple Computer car & won the 1981 Daytona 24 hour with Brian Redman, Bobby Rahal & Bob Garretson driving.

Dick Barbour did own the car- I've seen Carolla's Nissans at the Mitty & saw that he is a real car guy having fun with his toys.

I know a lot about this car and had a meeting with a certain company, that sponsored it at one time, about buying it and putting it back in their sponsorship livery. Unfortunately the price tag at that time was more than twice what Adam paid for it. At the time I had estimated the car at 3mm.

This car started life as a Dick Barbour 935 in factory bodywork. It was run by Barbour/Garretson with local PCA/GGR region volunteers as they were based out of Mt. View near San Jose. I remember when I bought the Coca Cola 935-84 it had a decal on the dash that said, "To Hell With How They Do It In California" and that was directed at Barbour and Garretson.
Car is back in factory bodywork after Carlos DeQuesada had Paul Willison restore it before he sold it five years or so ago.

It was also the Apple K3 for six or seven races and it was the sister car to one of my old 935's , the blue Style Auto #9 . Then again shared the black BP livery to my 930 770 0911 935 . Then it became the yellow Red Roofs Inn car then Flyling Tigers livery

Various livery's while yellow with Pelican's own Grady Clay (R.I.P.) as a driver for 3 or 4 races then back to black for Le Mans in 1982 where my old 0911 935 finished 5th overall.

Then the car went to Wayne Baker in 1983 who kicked butt with the car as a 934 including an outright win at the Sebring 12 Hours

For 1984 the car went back into K3 bodywork and with the GTX class abolished had to run in the GTP class with the prototype cars but was still competitive.

1985 the car went into 934 bodywork again and raced as the red Electromotive/Chester Vincent car in GTO until 1987

Only had two outright wins, Daytona 24 in 1981 and the Sebring 12 Hour in 1983 at the Wayne Baker GTO 934 but if you are going to win a race those are two of the better ones to win.

It would not be my first choice in a 935 to own just because of my own personal preference but it is certainly one of the more significant 935's . Adam has a great car and hopefully now that the car is living in the USA again we will see it on track in the future.

I was part of the crew for the Daytona 24 hour race in 1984 with this car. Too many 962's and other prototypes for a 935 to have any real chance at that point... I think we finished 7th, or maybe 9th...

Wayne won the GTO championship with it in 1983.

I've never known anything about Adam Carolla's political inclinations, and they don't matter to me. They're different from mine, but who cares? I only 'know' him from seeing him on Top Gear USA, and I didn't have the best impression of him there, but again, who cares? It's my taste. He is a bona-fide car guy and has enough money to own some really neat stuff that he wants, so good for him. Jay Leno's comedy isn't quite to my taste either, but in the same vein, who cares? I'd love to hang out with him and talk about cars anyway. No idea what his politics are either, and don't care either.

I went to the ALMS race in 2001 at Laguna Seca on Saturday. Our theory was that you can get easy cheap paddock passes, and walk through the race pits and the infield all day long, and then go home and watch the race on TV on Sunday. The Corvette corral had a nice hospitality tent with food. Jay was there eating I think a Tri Tip sandwich. He seemed really very normal and kept to himself - no entourage. I didn't yet know about his passion for cars, since he only really talked about motorcycles at that point. I wish I had gone up to him just to say "hi" and that I wish him success with the Tonight Show. I remember being struck by the sight of him eating with an enormous lower jaw. Anyway, really seems like a great guy who I wish I had bought a beer. And btw that was like a week or so before the twin towers were taken down.

Sorry to be a pain VZ935, if you have the racing numbers for your GREAT info below, I would really appreciate it. I am combing through vintage Panorama articles to find any on this car.

Thank you!
