If there isn't some sort of seating the pole doesn't really make much sense. You also need some tunes.

When I built my 'retirement' place in Shingletown, I bought a 53', and had all but the last 10 feet buried in the side of a hill. Bulldozer cut a 20' wide level cut in the hill, slid the container in, and pushed and dumped dirt back on sides and top. Resculpted the hillside, leveled the area around the door. 2 years later, natural grasses had reclaimed the disturbed dirt.

Short funny story. As I was moving furniture and equipment into it while house was being built, heard funny loud sound outside, cloud of dust, and then SWAT clad guys sitting in doorway of helo appeared. Landed, and swarmed the entrance. They thought my project was drug related.

I had a 10,000 gallon plastic water tank with 4" gravity fed hydrants down to the homesite half buried nearby. The firetrucks would park in my driveway whenever there was a brushfire and refill from my system.

I did rust-o-leum the outside of the container, and painted the roof that showed white to help keep it cool. Tilted it slightly towards the door so it would drain when washed out. Is still there 15 years later.

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but did you check with the San Diego County to see what if any regulations they have concerning containers? Several of the SD county inspectors are real ********** when it comes to looking at things.

That would have been a good idea.

I'm always surprised by what people do under the operating motto of it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. It is so prevalent that nobody seems to want to listen to reason and follow the rules. Anyone quoting the ordinance or law is somehow a bad guy and doesn't know what he's talking about. If you can get away with it, it's legal and so on and so forth. Makes it tough getting anything done in the long run for a professional with liability and responsibility.

Looks to be three feet from the property line with no permanent foundation with the bonus of currently being made of non-combustible material.

3 to 5 feet from the property line most cities around here allow a storage shed, once a foundation is involved setbacks kick in (typically).

The city for sure could have set up restrictions on use of, placement and getting any sort of utilities to it. They might even forbid solar panels and composting toilets as way to skate around usefulness and therefore make them less desirable.

When this thread started I assumed it was way out in the country, the photo of an urban/suburban setting really took me by surprise.

Right now that shipping container looks like a great place to hide a bunch of illegals.

I'm sure it will end up look nice though.

The box container company wanted $900 for a man door, 1200 for each roll up door. No thanks......those windows and a dead bolted solid core door are my next step. Then electrical.

The power cord from the house is a PITA.

Air turbines are on the list along with a crapload sheet metal screws.

You need a plasma cutter, so at least making holes will be fun.
