Had to stir the pot didn't you...

Am I the only person who remembers V8 George AKA "The Swamp Monster"
         ?? |
ks911.
The world would be a boring place without people like you. If I EVER end up in a 911 I would never want to do it to my car but ..... you gotta push the boundaries ! |
I vote we ban Fishcop from the board. Who's with me!!?
|
Ahh...now that we are here, "Glad to have a I4": :D :D :D (Still being worked on, so we don't know how glad we are going to get...)

Jeez Beepbeep- you could fit two of those turbocharged little Saab puppies in there = DOUBLE the POWER !!!

Well one of those should be good for 400+ hp so there is no need to get too extravagant. Low weight is the key.
Don't be fooled with extra space, there are more things to be stuffed around...intercooler, cooler, intake, separate 930 wastegate etc. |
Glad to see this thread is still alive.
FWIW, the yellow 911 V8 seen at the beginning of the thread is about to come back from the dark side. Keith is installing a highly modified 911 motor into his 911 so that he can go PCA racing (GT3) :D. Personally, I am very glad to see this. On the track, I could not pass him with the 3.2 914-6 vs his 500HP+ V8 911. |
Somebody tell me that SAAB motor is photoshopped ....... please.
|
Nope, looks like the real thing? Need a front motot mount bar built? Im about to drop my V8 and may be able to rough an outline. Looks like fun!
|
you know a turbo dodge engine would fit in nicer than that saab engine :D
|
i remember the swamp monster. i acutally talked to the guy on the phone.

New GM alloy slant four has same bolt pattern as SAAB-engines as far as i know, so there are interesting possibilities opening up. Unfortunately, it's not so over-engineered as SAAB one, so you start changing internals at much lower HP-numbers than SAAB one (which is good for 400HP without opening it or 500 with better cams, provided there is fuel and air to feed it). Anyway, it's always fun pissing off purists ;-) |
OMG....it lives.
sjd porscharu dreamer. |
that new GM vortec inline 6 out of the box is 275hp/275lbs...if I ever get a project 911 with a blown or missing engine, I may look into that one...VERY light, plus the mods are cheap...
then I'll have the best 911 (911SC) :) and a bastard 911 ;) |
People...people...There is a cure for this disease. And as a public service...actually, as a public HEALTH service, I have researched the possibility of developing an air cooled flat eight. Yes, a big displacement motor with gobs of torque, low center of gravity, Porsche parts, and the approval and admiration of the entire Porsche community - purists and all. Here is an original example from Porsche...
<img src="http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/large/815-4.jpg" border="0" alt="" width=500> I emailed a guy named Jake Raby...an awesome flat four tuner who has proven he can build 200+ hp flat fours that won't blow up. And his reply was... "I have contemplated a flat eight VW engine, but the 911 would be even easier due to its design. I would be more than interested in the project. Jake Raby" If you haven't seen his website, you must check it out. It is... http://www.aircooledtechnology.com If you check out his huge flat four motors (including one up to 2.7 liters !!) you can imagine how a 200hp flat four in the back of a 911SC would provide more hp and less weight = more performance than stock !! I blew $7000 on a rebuilt 3.0 carrera motor for my SC and I probably would have done much better to buy one of Jake Raby's motors instead. But I digress. So for the love of humanity, let's encourage these V8 and (gulp) I4 miscreants to come back to the fold and use their powers for good. Friends, friends, Jake Raby can help you. Take the $$ you would spend on that awful piece of iron and have Jake develop a true porsche-approved flat eight for you. And then send him my address so I can have one for myself. ;) |
That's pretty cool Janus. Flat 8 with MFI. The injection pump is probably from a 8 cyl. diesel mercedes.
His name rings a bell. I'm sure someone here knows him. |
He lives about 2 hours away...
all us 912 guys know him. sjd turboed flat four subaru power!! Mutt will live. |
Jake Raby rocks. He built the motor in my recently sold Vintage 550 Spyder. He is located in Cleveland, GA. If Jake says he can do it, then I would believe him.

Hell Yeah, I can do it!

I am suprised to see this thread pop its head up again.
Am sad to say that the V8 is gone. The decision to switch was a tough one. As much as I want to club race in GT3, I will miss the feeling of close to 500Hp. Sure a turbo motor can be fast but just not the same. Will probably never again own a car with the fun factor of the V8 911. Yes the Porsche powered car will probably be a little faster on the track as I am removing 300 plus Lbs in the form of lighter motor, no radiator system, fiberglass fenders, etc, but will still not be the same. To have a guy in a new GT3 car come up and ask you how you pulled him or run down a new turbo in the straights is a rush. I will not miss the less than steller reliablity of the V8, Chevy did not build their motors to be race capable from the factory. Had my share of issues. Anyhow on to the next chapter. Motor was built by Jarvis Tech, it is a 3.126 with 3.0 liter crank, 3.3 turbo jugs, Cosworth rods and piston, custom Electromotive fuel injection with crank fire twin plug, etc. Dynoed at 325Hp and 256Ft/Lb of torque. Should have it up and running in a couple of weeks. Should be fast but...not the same. |
If your concerned about keeping your porsche all porsche, you can always have a porsche V8......
http://www.d.umn.edu/~jrichar4/alien.htm I only posted here to add more useless info to a topic that has already out lived it's useful life. |

I misunderstood. I thought you were posting a hybrid flat eight that Jack Raby had built. I guess that Evelyn Woodhead sped reading course wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.:) |

Have at it!!!!!!!

Mike,
Like your car, I too considered the 928 motor for the 911 but deminsionally it is just not possible. Maybe if you are willing to modify body , which I wasn't. Also what is the weight of the 928, I was thinking it is heavier than the aluminiun headed Chevy. Keith |
The 928 motor is all aluminum. oil pan, block, heads, as well as the Black Widow Spider raping the engine it sits on as it screems off the tac for mercy!
Mine happens to be a 1980 euro spec "S" version. Extremely under rated at 300 hp in stock trim. So not only is the 914 your worse night mare in the twisties, it's now out pulling you in a line. No Need to check your mirror. Were way beyond that.... |
Can everybody scream out "butcher!" at the man who put a 928 V8 in his 914. Or are 914s not worthy of a Porsche snob's pity?
Good job, Rich. That motor looks great in the 914 engine compartment. |
|
Now see Curt, aren't you glad I revived this thread? ;)

Keith,
what water pump part number did you use? Do you have any pix of it or the mounting? I imagine that the rest of your v8 parts are gone but if not..... are you selling them? steve |
Hi H2O,
I used an electric Mezier Heavy Duty water pump. I would not suggest this pump. I tested the pump myself and it did not produce the flow or the pressure advertised. Stewart make what looks like a really nice pump, would talk to some at Stewart Pumps and make them promise that it flows what is advertised. Really need a solid 50 to 60 gallon per minute minimum, circle track guys expect around 115 gallons per hour. If I were to do again I would either use one of the conversion pumps or go ahead and modify the body to accept a factory style pump. If you plan to use a dry sump system like I did you are stuck with factory style or electric. The only parts I have left is a modified factory gas tank and a 915 flywheel for a pre-86 chevy motor. 125.00 for tank 75.00 for flywheel Happy to give any advice you need, I truly enjoyed the car and my build another in the future. Keith |
wow, deja vu ;)
|
Hey sam - do you think we can put a moral issue spin on this thread?
I think it's beyond me but if the both of us do a tag-team? |
Not me, I feel guilty enough for dragging this old thread back from the grave ;)
