Why didn't I think of this earlier? I know how to get this thread moved to Off-Topic ...... I'll just invoke the dreaded "C" word!!! Works every time ....... so here's my CAYENNE V8 engine ......

Hey Rarly8,
I'll swap you a nice 350 chevy straight up for the 3.3 turbo.

BTW, I don't really have a problem with this conversion, as you can see in my sig I have a Triumph with the same problem....

So the car in question does look pretty sweet!

I figure this sbc conversion thing is what they made 914's for

Just because we change the engine in a 911 dosen't mean we
disrespect the car.

Its kinda funny that the "purists" dis the guy for putting a V8 in a 911 but nobody screams at all the "Bastard Porsches" out there. Is it OK to create a freak one of a kind Porsche as long as you use Porsche parts? I personally like things as close to stock as possible. Concours is not easy. My lowly plain coupe is plenty of fun to drive. I don't take it to the track and I don't win stop light races with Vettes (nor do I want to try). I bought my car because I like it and IT MAKES ME HAPPY. Isn't that what a P-car is all about? Pride of ownership and enjoyment of a fine ride.

and i thought swapping in a 908 motor would be really cool and turn some heads. or is that "ok" because it is a porsche engine and is also a flat engine? i hope you get many days of happy motoring from your car. lastly to hit upon what jack said at the beginning of this thread, it is just a car. this in its basic form is a method of transportation, four wheels and a motor. if this man wishes his four wheeled terror powered by a small block v8, good for him. bust me a vine, im out.

I really like the Porsche 911.

It is the best. MY ALL TIME FAVORITE OF PRODUCTION CARS.

BUT?

Why, oh Why, oh Why!

Do the parts cost so much?

PORSCHE has us by the proverbial throat here in the USA when it comes to parts. A 3.2 Oil dip stick that was worth 2.75$ cost me 21.50$

There are flaws in the F6 engine...

Why all the continual postings and asking for help on how to
R&R busted Head Bolts?

I think the 911 / SBC conversion is a good one.
Nice combination German & USA.

I wonder if they thought Ferry was WACKO when he started
making his little VW - Porsche conversion car, "The Tub"... Porbably.

I have a whipple Supercharger kit for a small block chevy. If you dont buy it from me, I might have to put on my 3.2L. But just think of all the TT's you'll get to see in the mirror.

Dennis - that SBC is worth about as much as the K27-7200 tubo on my 930 engine. That's a fair swap.
Hard to believe I was soooooo close to a 911/V8. I had located a complete kit previously installed. Sold out from under me at the last minute. Regrets? I'll never know. I've got stupid money in the 3.3T so there is no going back. I do know I'd give about anything to obliterate my 13" tires from a standing start (w/ 930 tranny). It's difficult to get used to frying tires from a roll at the top of second gear. Turbos are a different animal all right.

How much you want for the whipple? My old steet machine keeps callin' my name. Every time I look at 'er I smell burning rubber, hear the engine rumble and feel the distant memory of raw torque.

This thread involves pulling a flat 6 out of a 911, and i don't like that.

This thread had pictures of a 914, and i'd like to set mine on fire.

This thread involves chevrolet power, and I've got Chrysler muscle cars and a Mustang 5.0 for a daily driver.

Therefore, I believe it is my moral and legal obligation to hate this entire thread.

I don't make the rules...

damn was that a fun 45 minutes' worth of reading, though. You'll have to excuse me for now, though, as I've got a couple more bottles of Hai-Karate to dump down the toilet. Shh!

One reason people don't go the 928 route in the 911 with the timing belt issues aside is the 928 motor is a pretty heavy beast. I don't know if it will fit either as it is pretty wide to accomodate the overhead cams and still keep the nose of the car low. I almost did it in a 914 once but another local guy beat me to it.

Chev SB into 928 is relatively common over here. Installing a 928 V8 in a 911 would defeat the purpose of the conversion (cheepo engine install).

I had a gear-driven warm 327 in a Jaguar once. Sounded like the Ford Mercury Stallone drove in "The Cobra".

Some madman in NZ has an SBC in an old Mini. There was a street driven Holden Ute over here with TWO of them (one in the front, one in the rear - both of them supercharged) I think it was called BLOBAK.

Ok, so Im ready to convert the 327 SBC to EFI. Looks like my easiest and most cost effective is Edelbrock. Ive considered a TEC-3 if I can find a good price. Last resort is to Frankenstein a bunch of GM and aftermarket parts to make a GM setup. Any suggestions? (yes another 911 swap) Gotta love G's!!!

That CAYENNE 4.5 V-8 looks pretty familiar.

Yep!! It looks a lot like the Corvette Engines of the late 80's. Especiallly the CORVETTE 350 LT-1 TPI. There it is in a Porsche. They copied that cool looking TPI (Tuned Port Injection) from a CORVETTE. I like the USA / German combination.
