Still trying to figure out if this is a functional improvement over the WEVO or if incorporates some sort of gating system in the shift tower.

Anyone know how it works?

gating in the tower itself is kinda useless for a 911 with 915 (and even G50) as the shift rod is so long reaching back to the rear it will always loose some kind of precision.

that's why WEVO has the gate to implant INSIDE the 915

The factory gated the shifter mechanism in 5th for a reason..... adding spring tension to the shifter without a mechanism to capture the force (as the factory unit does for fifth) is something that could be improved upon.

I agree that the WEVO gateshift is a great solution.

WEVO initially tried the gate field in the shifter (similar to a typical Ferrari gated shifter base) and decided it wasn’t entirely successful. So they moved it to inside the transmission

G50 has an internal gate similar to what WEVO devised for the 915. Take a look at the PET parts diagrams for the G50 and you can see it very clearly

I have installed the Stealth shifter. I had to have the base plate machined to accept the heater lever. I also have threaded the shift rod extender to accept my early screw in shift knob. The threading is cocked and I need to do it over. I also installed the Stomski coupler. I also replaced the completely worn out gearbox and motor mounts. The gearbox has stock bushings. The motor has Wevo black.

I need work on the adjustment, it is not optimized.

Overall shifting is completely different. I am having to relearn shifting. There is no vagueness which confuses me. It is not obviously in gear because it enters the gear so quickly and positively.

I think it is an improvement but it has changed the character of the car. Too soon to tell if the character is improved or not. I have a long drive planned for tomorrow so I should have a better assessment

Chris - It's been a number of months since your Stomski Stealth install. I was curious how you are feeling about the investment and the change in the character of shifting. I am considering the same for my '86. Thanks.

I think there is less slop over my worn out OEM shifter. I also installed the Stomski coupler at the same time. I still need to adjust it. Sometimes when downshifting from 4 I hit 5 instead of 3. The other thing I did was replace the trans mount bushings and engine mount bushings.

I was hoping to get a dramatic difference and that did not happen. I might have been able to replace the worn parts and got a similar result. Further adjustment is on my long to-do list. I really want the 4-3 shift to be more precise.

ChrisHoover - how is the Stomski shifter working out a year later? Does it help the 1st to 2nd shift at all on the 915? Do you notice the shortened shift in all shifts, or just the forward and up shifts (3 & 5th)?

I have a 902 gearbox. I think the improvement is marginal. I have to hunt for 3rd. I often land on 5th. That’s probably is an adjustment problem I need to fiddle with.

the shifter

I have tried them all. This just works.I just bought the great bushing from J Novak.I installed his bushing on a stock car and it was a nice steady improvement. My Stromski is the best as are all his creations. We are lucky to have talented people like this in our midst.Ciao

Best shifter out there, I worked my way up to it and then I hit the home run..
Yes you should do all the other bushings and mounts first or you're wasting time, then the home run is unicorn tears.
I tried Swepco, very good stuff, I liked the Amsoil synchromesh better, then I found this,

Genuine Ford Fluid XT-M5-QS Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid -
Silly price but it is a game changer on my 915 with 300k on it.

Anyone using Numerick?

I am looking at the Wevo and then found Nermerick. Anyone have any history with this shifter? the coupler comes with the kit?

Are you referring to the Stomski Stealth shifter? Thread got a bit confusing.

Well, you might like how it feels but you're not going to like what it does to your synchros. The synchros are balk ring style and nothing like the cone system used on modern manual gearboxes. The baulk ring setup does not do well with synthetic oils...but you go right ahead.

I forgot to say the tranny is rebuilt now and I used a nice 5th gear from Matt Munson. Zoom zoom.
