Hello everyone!!

Recently I bought a 911 3.0 SC.
When checking the engine number and engine type, i noticed something strange.

The engine number is 6339081 and the engine type is 930/09.

I can't find any engine number that matches with the 930/09??

What could be an explanation for this?

Thanks, Pieter!

I've been searching every where but the number seem nonsensical. This is definitely the number marked on it. Anyone have a theory?

Well, I've went through the Red Book and Waynes Book that covers 1965-1989+, twice and no engine serial # start with a 7.

Do you have the engine type? 930/xx.

First number start with 6 stand for 6 cylinders

Unless you are from Australia... this engine has travel since 2005!!!

Doesn't look like he was able to identify it either.

Hi Guys. The motor is now sitting on the floor of my Subaru mechanic's workshop.

Tomorrow night we will pull it apart for a look see. He [Bob the mechanic] said that from his tests and how it sounded it may only be the top end that is from the cactus family.

He rang around a few suppliers and apparently one of them suggested that from the engine number it is a 3.2 litre?!

This is not what I believe. Does someone have easy access to a book that confirms that engine # 7318935 is a 1981 3liter 204 hp SC?

I also posted this question on the engine rebuilding forum.

After tomorrow night I expect I will have a list of parts to source and from reading other posts it worth getting a few quotes including from pelican.

I am looking forward to playing - much more fun than just sending the motor down south.

Course - will have to see whether it is a rational decision - after the car is back in one piece.

Cheers

James

Thanks for the answer. But shouldn't the engine number be 6300001 something?

On rennlist i found the following enginenumber: 6339xxx which corresponds with a 911s sporto from 1973?

Yep, that's the guy I bought it off so only traveled 1000kms from tropics to desert. He left it in the rain in north Queensland so it's rather rusty now. Engine is leaking like crazy so I need to rebuild it.

His mechanic obviously got it wrong as it came with a bunch of 3.2L parts in the back seat.

Good catch JJ :)

Maybe i misunderstand things? But let me put it the other way.

What engine type normally corresponds with this engine number: 6339081?

pors1968 02-19-2015 11:33 AM

With engine type 930/09 sorry that not 2.4S engine type 925/01 would be 73S 2.4S

964 - Engine code: 924820XX

Hi all, I've red in and out all related posts found on the web, looking after the history behind a number of an engine I'm looking to buy: 924820XX.
My guess is that it is a replacement block for a 964 Carrera Cup, isn't it?

thanks a lot in advance for your light.

Hi guys
Been asking here a couple of times about engine codes and I'm very thankful for the answers, I'm looking at cars that I'm thinking about buying so I'll have to check out a couple of more engines code before i pull the trigger, so it's there somewhere i can check these codes out by myself so i don't have to bother you guys all the time? Oonline perhaps or is it in some book thats no longer available?
Anyway heres another one: 6144235
Tnx!
