The 901 number was chosen because when the car was being drawn up for production, Porsche and VW had a parts distribution agreement. All the other three digit series numbers were already being used so Porsche got the 900 series numbers. After the 901 was introduced, Peugeot claimed it had rights to all PRODUCTION series cars with a 0 in the middle = so Porsche said ok - 911. And it was good. But then, Porsche, with a sharp stick in a French rib, said but you don't have the rights to RACING cars with a 0. So came the 904, 906 etc. All the other numbers 930 etc. were created when the engineering deparment decided that there were enough changes to warrant a new type number.

Basically the numbers 900 to current day are the engineering project numbers - some of which we will never see....

The Meaning of life

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter. He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognise that this is your life.

The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff." "If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal." "Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

But then... An Australian student then took the jar which the other students and the professor agreed was full, and proceeded to pour in a glass of beer. Of course the beer filled the remaining spaces within the jar making the jar truly full. Which proves: - that no matter how full your life is, there is always room for a beer; - your life will not be completely full without a beer.
If there is always room for beer and beer is liquid bread and man cannot survive on bread alone, can he survive on family and beer alone?

They could and they did. (964, 993 . ..)

Why does Porsche put a 911 label on the 996?
It seems they should have gone with 829. . . since its pretty much a backwards 928.

Will Porsche ever make a 999?

Will they ever use four digit numbers?

Nice story but of course we know it must be apocryphal. No Australian - especially not a student - would EVER waste any portion of beer in such a wanton fashion. Not without passing it through his kidneys first.
Fair dinkum.

And as to my question - why tie the kangaroo down anyway?

I live in Colorado at about 9000 ft. I have still not come up with a "smart ass" enough answer for these questions from the tourists..
"AT WHAT ELEVATION DO THE DEER TURN INTO ELK?"..and...
"Am i getting sunburned here because i am closer to the sun?"
...no...im not kidding, i have heard it at leaste 10 times...that's just how stupid america has become.
(BTW...when you are at altitude, the 9000 ' is not that much closer to the sun when you figure it's a billion zillion miles away. It is thinner atmosphere, hence, lest protection from the UV....just incase you were wondering)
ONE MORE QUESTION!! WHERE THE HELL DO I FASTEN THE PISTON RETURN SPRINGS TO IN MY 3.0 ?!?!?! AND THE MUFFLER BEARINGS? WHERE DO I GET THEM AND WHERE DO THEY GO?!?!

Only halfway. Any further than that, and he's running out of the woods.

Us brits DO complain about the price of fuel, its just that you guys would not believe what we pay. High car tax, stringent speed restrictions, congested roads, high cost of petrol. What is this little island coming to? Really need to get a track car.....

loved the meaning of life answer.

And so, as the beer fizzes and fizzes, does the glass become less full? If not, where does the air come from??

Only if he is married. If he is married, he is wrong whether a woman is there or not. If he is not married, then he is right, even if a woman is there.

Spoken from experience. Wife, and three daughters. Try to discuss cars around the dinner table?? HA
