Here are some pictures that I took of the Rothmans car. It was full of neat little details, I wish I had taken more shots of it.

So Jim....those pics of the Rothmans car ( #175) would be type 954....not the AWD model ( 953) right ?

Ok Wil, I did a little research when I got home from work and it seems to me that in fact this might be one of the factory 953's rather than the Richards' car. I believe that it might be one of the cars that ran the Paris- Dakar in '84. Many details are the same as the 959 that ran in '85....the two red lights on the passenger side roof, the rear facing lights on the roof, the blacked out rear window, etc. I'll do a little more digging and see what I find.

A little digging turned up the following:
The Rothmans #175 is the car that Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur drove to a 6th place finish in the 1984 Paris - Dakar Rally. Metge and Lemoyne finished first in the sister car # 176. It is a typ 953, an evolution between the SC/RS and the 959 rally car that ran essentially the 959 4wd drivetrain and was naturally aspirated.

![]() Pat Williams down in Memphis had an ex-Middle East (Qatar I think) SC RS in his place not long ago to do some bits, must be the same car mentioned in one or two of the other posts here. I posted some pics and details of it on my board here. Pat's page on the car is here, but his whole website is great so it's all worth a look - start here. One of our guys recently posted a link to a video which features some SC RSs being slid around a few European rallies back in the day, no engine sounds but love the obvious acceleration. The video is here. They are all genuine SC RS machines. The SC RS was the car that really started me on 911s; I stood next to Toivonen's Prodrive Rothmans car on a rally back in Ireland when I was a kid, watched them get it ready and then watched him drive off in it. The sound and the smell and the knowldge of what that car was capable of (when everyone said it shouldn't be) left me hooked on the 'impact-bumper era' cars for life I think. What a car ![]() ![]()

Have just found some great new (to me) SC RS footage.
An unsung hero has put almost ONE AND A HALF HOURS of uninterrupted Group B footage on Google. Group B is my thing, and I've got loads of it on dvd and video, but I've never seen any of this stuff. Should have downloaded it, gone to bed and watched it in the morning but no, 0320hrs and still awake ![]() Loads of stuff on here. Rallies include the Monte, Tour de Corse, 1000 Lakes, Zeeland, Portugal, San Remo and the Acropolis, ranging from '84 to '86. Cars include the Quattro and Quattro Sport, 205 T16, Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Renault 5 Turbo 2 and 11 Turbo, Manta 400, Ford RS200, 6R4, BX 4TC, Skyline GT-R, and last but not least, the 911 SC RS. I have picked out the times the 911 appears so you can go straight to them, but the reality is that the whole video is well worth watching, it's something else, and is here. Great footage, with Toivonen/Blomqvist/Mikkola/Röhrl etc everywhere you look. These guys were/are driving gods, no other word for them. Anyway - the SC RS Clips are at: 0.10:49: #12 Al-Hajri/Spiller on Acropolis 1985 (Finished P5) 0.16.44: #10 Béguin/Lenne on Tour de Corse 1985 (Finished P3) 0.17.54: #15 Coleman/Morgan on TdC 1985 (Finished P4) 0.19.26: #10 TdC 1985 (As Above) 0.54.34: #15 Al-Hajri/Spiller on Acropolis 1986 (Finished P4) 0.57.56: #15 As Above 1.00.52: #15 As Above 1.01.20: Bit too far sideways...lucky escape ![]()

Pano and UpFixing are out of print and becoming hard to get, so I will post some excerpts from Prescott Kelly's SC-RS article in Panorama Aug. 1985, p. 4-16. The article was reprinted in UpFixing VII: 356-363.
The SC-RS was created to provide Rothmans with a cheap rally car. The SC-RS used headers only at the rear (no heat exchangers): ![]() Of course, the driver would not perform very well on a cold rally without heat, so the Eberspacher units were mounted with a shield: ![]() You can also see the mini-spare and twin brake m/c units in this pic.

Thought I'd revive this great thread. I'm surprised that these cars are not cloned more often given the popularity and availability of impact bumper cars.

I don't read every thread so I don't know if this has been posted before: a proper little darling SC RS built for the IMSA GTO series, being sold at Edmond Harris here in the UK; POA. The National Lottery here is on Saturday nights, so when my numbers eventually come up, you all know where I'll be on the Monday morning
![]() The pic is the link to the sale page. ![]()

"....because it looks like another run of the mill turbo."
Good point! Are the flares the same as the 930? The whale tail spoiler in place of the turbo unit might be the only obvious visual clue.
