Cool It was only a question of time....

…tonight on my way back from an early Valentine’s dinner with a couple of drinks under my belt I noticed a cruiser behind me. I guess I saw him before he noticed me. So I drove in stealth mode meticulously watching my speed. He stayed behind me for a couple of miles. Then comes a long uphill section - darn. I sort of had to stay on the gas ever so slightly to avoid stalling to a complete stop. Once over the crest his lights came on. I quickly reviewed my situation: Got my license, registration sticker current, got my registration and proof of insurance with me as well as my girl. Well, a couple of drinks but nothing too wild. Shielding my eyes from the blinding search light I braced for the inevitable:

When he approached he said, the reason he pulled me over was that my exhaust note was sort of loud. No s#!t. “Is your exhaust broken or did you modify it?”. Well, that’s how I got the car, I replied. He took that in and informed me that he would strongly advice to do something about it rather sooner than later. But he did not give me a fix-it ticket. Nice. After letting me know that I was allowed to smoke cigarettes at my convenience in the car but that flicking ash or, God forbid, a cigarette out of the window would get me a 400$ ticket with points and 8 hours trash collection he let us go.

Hm, maybe I have to look at the Triad setup one more time or rig up something else ala Mike Feinstein.

Ingo

At least the engine seems to running great!

Most of us that know you can't believe it hasn't happen sooner.

"Did you here that?
"What, oh..."
"Sounds like a drag boat race on the Colorado"
"Yep, Ingo must be passing through Ventura"

Ingo,

Glad you did not get busted for the exhaust and glad to hear its running again!

Next time just pull over to the side of the road and shut the motor off. If he stops then tell him that your oil pressure gauge acted funny or something and start looking at the motor.

A 30 minute wait on the side is better than getting a "fix it" ticket or worse!

reminds me of the time the cops showed up at a friends house to tell us to stop riding the go-cart in the street because the neighbors were complaining............the go-cart was a formula ford without the body panels
glad you got out of that

Funny thing.....Ingo and I went to visit my 356 shortly after he got the 3.6 back in....I mentioned that he might want to back off on the go peddle when going thru underpasses.....

That reminds me.....

I need to go put the caps back on my Supertrapps....

I am in the minority here, but I hate Harleys with straight pipes blasting through my neiborhood. And, I feel the same way about cars with straight pipe blasting through my neighborhoods. Noise polution is polution, it may not smell bad or kill you, but it is polution

Ingo, Ron and I are putting the cab up on the rack FRIDAY....valve adjustment, plugs and oil change.....gotta get it smogged.

Geez, two rotors, two caps, two spark plugs....215 bucks....ouch.

The caps were off the mufflers because the probe needed to be stuck in the exhaust stream......it's STILL not as loud as the Ingo mobile....

Yelcab,

I completely agree with you! When I was young and had a lot more hair on my head I enjoyed a louder exhaust but now I enjoy a quieter sound but still going fast. We have loads of Harleys going past my house heading to the mountains and it seems that 80% of them have no mufflers. My bike has mufflers and theirs can as well... many of us in the area have talked to the police and they are working on the problem.

Mike, feel lucky you do not have an airplane! Plugs are $12 to 45 EACH and there are two per cylinder!

This whole smoking thing is out of control. This is America damn it! They would have only fined you $100.00 if you had had a joint instead of a Winston. And points on your license!!! Please! Since when was smoking a moving violation?

It's flicking it out the window that's the issue.....we lost over 400 homes a few years ago.....this place can be a firebomb with just the littlest thing likely to set it off. We have had only ONE rain storm this season and not looking good for any more.

When I moved here...it was realtively cheap. NOW, I can't afford to move.

Soon as I hit 55 (age), I sell and take my equity elsewhere....for those NOT in CA. The state allows you to take your tax rate and buy a smaller/cheaper home...but keep the tax rate that you had when you bought the first home way back when.....

If I sell NOW.....my property taxes would go from 5K a year to 18K+......

Let me tell you a story.

Way back when, I was helping a University of Denver student (TC) get his mixture correct on his newish ’67 912. So, we were make power runs up Floyd Hill on I-70 west of Denver and stop at the top and take plug readings.

Well, as luck would have it, just as we stopped and had the deck lid open the Colorado State “Courtesy Patrol” roared past, locked up all four and came back to see if we “needed help.” He knew what we were up to but just didn’t catch us. As he was inquiring as to how long we had been there and if we had seen some other Porsche going “really fast” his State ’69 Plymouth erupted into a huge cloud of steam. You have never seen a sworn officer so angry.

Tom and I thought about offering help but common sense prevailed and we putsied back to town.

A true story from the summer of 1969.

Best,
Grady

HOOT! Grady, I'm laughing my rear off here. Opportunities missed. You could have offered help, informing the officer that you had a set of metric sized tools...

Prop 13...

We bought our house in 2000 and currently pay about $6,000 /yr in Property Taxes. My neighbor, who has been in his house since it was built in the late 60's pays just a few hundred a year.

Basically our houses are the same as far as lot size and square footage goes.

Is it fair? Well that depends on what side of the fence you are on. I don't think it would be fair for someone who owns their house outright, has lived there for over 35 years to have to pay such high property taxes just because other people want to spend that kind of money on houses in their neighborhood. If that was the case, the neighbor on the other side of us would have to move. Her Social Security probably wouldn't even cover the property taxes.

Gotta love the SF Bay Area!
