WEVO..wow!
I have said it before, it is hard to out engineer even the 30 year old work of the Porsche design engineers.
Wevo is one of the few companies who consistantly does just that. The gate shifter and all its additional pieces were the first examples I had to play with. The new bearings and spring plates are the second. As a guy who makes a living from his attention to detail in metal work I view these things as pieces of functional art. Sometimes you do actually get what you pay for. These combined with Chuck's Elephant Racing poly-bronze bushings and mono balls should be an amazing torsion bar car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by rdane; 03-30-2005 at 02:37 AM.. |

My LightSpeed frame has welds like that too. Must be a machine or a machine-like welding person.

Rdane,
Do you have the Wevo internal gate system in your trans? I was thinking about installing one but wanted to hear from someone that has run it for a bit? Thanks,

All of the Moots and Litespeed (at least the Ti ones that are made in US)are welded by hand. There is a company called Merida that uses robots for welding their Al and Mg alloy frames. That's pic rdane posted is probably one of the most expensive single speeds you can buy. You should check out Ventana mountain bikes if you want to see some really nice Al welds, machine work, and beautiful powdercoat finishes. Cyclists have to be the most obsessive group around when it comes to weld aesthetics.

Thats aircraft/spacecraft quality welding. Works of art and nice to see!
I have a good friend who can hand weld sheets of aluminum foil together and it looks like the above. Works in the aerospace industry... JoeA

I've had two 915 gear boxes with the complete WEVO set up. Worth the money IMO and anyone who has driven them.
This from Hayden, "welding is by hand, using a power rotary table to keep the part moving under the torch". That dude does nice work for you Hayden! The lock nut set up looks just as good and that too is by hand. |

Oh yeah......
WEVO...slam dunk baby....all great stuff. Between him and Chuck....genius. I have almost all WEVO except these plates. You'd swear it was made for aircraft, Boeing that is. Dane, can you highlight the advantages of this over the post-1978 factory adjustable springplates? ---------------------------------------- The man himself: ![]() The car he engineered at Daytona: ![]()

That Is some beautiful welding but I've got to ask because it bothering me.
That set screw for the adjuster....it digs in(for lack of better description) to the adjuster to stop it moving right? Would it not damage the threads on the adjusting bolt which in turn would damage the housing threads when making re-adjustments depending on how far it was backed out or in? Part of the reason for these arms is to make frequent adjustments easier isn't it? I'm sure for street, most of us would just set and forget. Perhaps I'm missing something. |

I would not imagine those being robotic welds, as the fixture costs and setup costs would need volume runs to justify.
