burgermeister* Thanks very much for your feedback. It is a bit heartbreaking but important to me to understand this. Actually, it should be important to anyone considering a car on the outer fringes of enthusiast vehicles. Who knows... I've done plenty of dumb car nut things but your comments will prevent me from convincing myself I had no idea these were so loud.

A very accurate description!

I don't want to talk you out of a fun toy. Wearing earplugs is not the end of the world ... I also wear them in my mostly stock '88 911 when I go on longer road trips. I too have hearing loss and tinnitus up the [wazoo] cochlea, no sense making it worse on purpose.

Burgemeister* It sounds like we are close to being in the same boat. A long time ago I wanted to get a 996 GT3 but decided they were too hard on my hearing, so I got a 996 GT2. Much better for my hearing but instead it tries to kill me. [what a way to go]

I'm thinking. Dynamat and things like that but you can hit a point with where you end up with something that you didn't intend in the first place. I"ve still got an old 911 race car [yes, LOUD] and other toys but I'm also at an age where a lot of guys are getting rid of things like this and studying specs on EZ chairs.A 904 could happen but it's good to be aware of what is involved- and beats the H outta reclining loungers. Thanks again.

I kind of assumed a kit built fiberglass chassis track car would be loud stiff and clunky, it's to what degree that is the question. You're likely never going to drive one very far so it may be tolerable. You might need to get creative with the exhaust system to quiet it down but it's probably doable.

These are supposed to be replicas of a 'no frills' race car so I had no interest in dampening down that experience when I built mine - no sound deadening, quietened exhaust or ear plugs for me ...

I drove mine to the Scottish highlands for a long weekend trip on some of the UK's finest roads (1500 miles covered) & a trip down to the Porsche Factory in Stuttgart (in the company of ~ 30 early 911 owners) - another trip of ~ 1500 miles - on megaphones.

I loved it !!

I'd have mine more quiet if I could figure out how. Also, I'd have heat - while 'heat' is an option on the Becks, it doesn't really do much, and when it isn't used the plastic vent melts & falls off.

Outside of that, they are actually relatively comfortable, considering that they are essentially 60's race cars. I can do 3-4 hours without a break, and I've had 1000 mile 4 day weekends in it between driving to, from, and on, the track. I am 6'-2", and fit with a helmet. They actually have pretty decent luggage capacity too, as long as you are solo. And a spare tire! Though no place for the wheel with the flat ....

This was for a cold 2 day track weekend, and fit in the passenger seat, footwell, & frunk, without any fuss.

Some of the fastest, and some of the slowest, road legal air cooled vehicles to ever be produced, all on top of each other! Cool!

Good article with photos: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/porsches-fabulous-904-8-chassis-008/

Doesn't show the same modified engine lid area with flat fan and trumpets exposed, interestingly. According to the article Porsche raced /4, /6, AND /8 all at the same time in endurance racing in 1964 and 65. The /8 is an 'endurance spec.' F1 engine?!?

New dream car right there

You're saying $50K for a kit car WITHOUT engine or transaxle? Hmmmm, that's getting kind of steep to pay for "image". I know that Beck makes top quality kit cars, but they are still kit cars. So, I wouldn't sell my real 911S in order to buy one....
I'm 5'9", this is me barely fitting in 904-0014. Anyone bigger then me would have a really hard time.

The Becks are a bit bigger in the passenger compartment than the originals. A dropped floor is an option, and with some Tillett seats, there is headroom a plenty. I've never tried, but I doubt I could fit in an original.

My parents live within a five minute walk of their HQ/factory/showroom. I always like to drive by and see the cars.

Chuck sold the business, although his son is involved. The company is now called Special Edition Inc. in Bremen, Indiana. I have chassis #96 coming... someday.
