A nice compromise that i'm surprised no one has mentioned would be to finish the fuchs with the early finished with the silver paddles...in 15"X7" and 8". That would be ideal...I have a set in my garage waiting for a Beck 904 to attach them to. I know I've seen pictures of 904's with fuchs somewhere, either in that big red coffee table book (written by a woman as i recall, not susan miller...), or maybe in some period pics my dad took in the early 70's...I don't remember.

Chuck Beck is the guy behind these cars.
I have met him and sat in his personal car he built long ago.
It is a great car IMHO.
Coincidentally, Jeff Beck is a "car guy" too, but he fancies American Hot Rods.

The comments, even the purists ones are great.

Chuck Beck likes to do things his way. He really doesnt know where to get the goodies from.
I had to talk him into installing the thru the hood filler that I supplied.
I dont like the wheels on that car myself, but thats what he furnishes.
Harvey Weidman is widening a set of 911 steelies 15" to 8' and 9's, more of a 906 look like Dave mentioned.
Those seat are his design. Will be replaced by a GTS seat similiar to real 904's.
Carpet will be pulled later and interior fiberglass finished and painted.
The engine will be converted to PMO's later on.

The 6 or so 904/6 cars did have mods by the factory such as:
Larger flares (wings), Larger 906 wheels/tires, larger side air scoops, center fill hood etc.

Anyway, the real work on this Beck 904 hasnt even begun, a year from now the car will look much
different.

As for other comments:
Anyone over 6' tall or over 250lbs may have difficulty getting is/out as well as seat position.
The cost? Well lets put it this way, could have bought a mint 04 or 05 GT3, and thats not including
the mods/upgrades I mentioned above.

Well that is to be expected on a prototype or first production unit of a vehicle. However I think what more of us want to know is what is it going to sell for once they are being produced? That's the big question...

As for critique? I agree with the steel wheel comments. I agree with carb comments. I would put vinyl or leather seats in there even if fabric is correct. I would also personally probably not use a wooden wheel. Momo or small diameter 911/912 wheel wrapped in leather would be more my style...

I really like it. I love the changes you have planned. Make it yours and forget about period correctness or what some people might say.

PMOs are nice and period correct etc... but these days I would also consider ITBs and EFI, especially if you need to smog it.

I doubt it will be any cheaper than $50-60k even when CB will put out 10 per year...

This is the original seat out of Nr. 028. I'm almost certain this is the original material (or it at least dates back to the 60's). The seat is basically a piece of sculpted foam. It weighs a couple of pounds. There is no frame or fiberglass shell and no mechanical attachment to the car. It has a rib down the back that fits into a slot in the chassis pan. The driver and seat are held in only by the lap belts

For me the 904 is the ULTIMATE early Porsche!

I've looked seriously into bringing one of these over to Australia, but the overall cost (for me) is equivalent to a cherry 911S, and in my stupid country they won't register the car unless it meets current smog - and there is no early (air cooled) Porsche engine that beats this requirement. I even looked into powering it with a Boxster drivetrain, but it all got just too silly

I really wish you lucky guys that get one the very best!

This is real. It raced at the Targa Florio, Nurburgring, etc. Has been driven on the streets of Detroit for the past 30 years or so. It's wearing its 1964 Marathon de la Route livery. There are now proper steel wheels on it as well.

And that's quite a fair bit cheaper than what a nice used 997 GT3 costs, and thus my question. I don't think anyone here is expecting him to give these things away, but it's a completely different buyer if we are talking $50-60k versus $100-125k...

Well to put things in perspective a Kraftwerkz 917 is around $125k and a LM917 is $150k (check the May issue of 911 and PW).

So I'd say the 904 could possibly go as high as $80k but then demand will be quite limited as you can build/buy an ultimate RSR replica which in my opinion has a wider appeal....
