Fixed my problem of high beaming people when I was signaling.

Fantastic thread indeed. Thanks!

Hi,

my car just passed the Vehicle Inspection thanks to this thread. I went out and tested all functions an hour before the inspection (risky, yeah....), and the high beam did not work. Figures.

So, did 5 min of searching on PP, found this thread, and two hours later the car was inspected and passed with the high beam working.

Great thread indeed!

Thanks and regards,

Johan

Had this same issue with my 88 911. Searched for the issue and came across this thread - issue fixed in 10 minutes! Saved some $, but more importantly, I'm not flashing the beams every time I signal to change lanes. Thanks!

Hehe. Good to see this thread come up from time to time. I was one that fixed the issue without removing the steering wheel back in '06. To date, no problems. I also had added the relays to offload the current to the turn signal stalk.

Great thread and a very easy project as I had the wheel off for stitching. Thanks!

Another huge thanks for this post. Fixed both my high low beam operation and on the other side my wipers not parking issue, both with the same technique.

Thanks...10 minute job saved me a ton of money! Replaced my turn signal switch last year for this problem thinking it was just an old worn out unit. New switch started acting up after only a year of being installed. Found this thread...saved money!

Wow - going to continue this excellent thread.

I am working on my '89 Targa, and wondering if the Steering Wheel must come off for this fix. I cannot get the plastic covers off, the 2 small screws securing them have been removed. I can pry them apart, but not enough to get in there to see what the contacts look like.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Happy 4th of July, 2013.

Thanks!

dagersh:

Yes you need to remove the wheel as there are screws holding the cover under the steering wheel.

HarryD,

Thanks. I have been looking around, how do I pull the horn pad off of the wheel? Is a simple pull carefully until it releases? Or is there harware I am not seeing?

Thanks - I can't drive the car at night until its fixed.

Michael:

I think you just pull it off but since my car has a different way of attaching the horn ring, I am not 100% sure. They changed it in 1974 and my car is a 1973.

If you do a search here, you will find posts by those with your style of horn button to verify the correct procedure. Try the search terms "remove horn" and find this thread: '87 Steering Wheel removal?

New Switch

I went ahead and replaced the switch with a new one over the weekend but the new switch will not click in to place to make a right turn. Any suggestions? Has anybody else had this problem? Defective switch? Thanks, John

John St. Louis: Did you try out the new switch in all positions before you installed it. If it was working correctly before you installed it you should recheck your installation, maybe redo it with care. If it was not working correctly before installation you got a bad switch, I think.
