Front (this is just a template) is taking shape: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2102/if2_003.JPG |
I want one.
|
Why not one IC?
Who supplied the half shafts? Did you say adjustable boost? Great Body work. Go IF2 team. |

Few updates. Things do take more time than planned. It's getting tight and we have two days of shakedown planned on 20:th of april. First shifter iteration: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2202/if2_004.JPG Front is being tidied down before making a template: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2202/if2_002.JPG Should look something like this: http://rebeltun.0catch.com/temp/q35av-2.jpg Two coolers to be installed on each side. One for gearbox oil and second for turbocharger cooling loop (this time it was decided to actually use turbo coolant passages): http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2202/if2_010.JPG |
It's now time to do dirty time-consuming work of making all those grandious ideas actually function in the way it's intended.
Plenum is being assembled in place (some sheet metal had to be widened): http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_002.JPG http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_007.JPG http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_005.JPG I actually believe this will make difference: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_006.JPG It's not just race, it's show too. We must have stereo and stuff in the doors to please the sponsors (don't worry, we'll remove it before Nurburgring ;) ): http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_003.JPG This is going to be main engine harness when it grows up...one day :) http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_011.JPG Carbon-fibre sheet is being cut. It's a good omen. http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2402/if2_013.JPG |
Hey Goran,
As others have said, what a nutty and great project! I have a friend who has done some similar things. Check out http://www.ultimav12.ca/ for some of his madness. There's a lot that's not shown their including a McLaren M6B 'replica' (built using original NOS M6B tub), a 550 replica with a Hyabusa drivetrain, a single seat V12 monster using a CART Reynard tub etc... Quick question on the boost and intake. When you said 2 bar of boost, are you talking about 30 psi of intake pressure? If so, has someone done a quick check on the wall thickness to make sure it's strong enough? Good luck meeting the deadline. That's always the toughest part with projects like this. |

Pic of his engine bay: http://www.ultimatestreet.com/gfx/im...es/build16.jpg Yes, we are talking 30psi of boost. We never did calculations but we use same sheet metal thickness as old one so it should work. We'll do shakedown tests so if it plenum cracks we'll re-weld it and reinforce it. It's just important it doesn't crack on Nurburgring. But chances for that are small as we'll drive on ring on "endurance map" and no more than 16-17psi of boost, to spare the engine. It should be good enough to catch a CGT anyway ;). More pics from today: Tokan is free-hand designing front spoiler: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2502/if2_009.jpg Should look like this: http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2502/if2_022.jpg |
Jay's 400 HP Ultima should be 'quick enough' for most people. Consider that it weighs the same as a Miata to give you an idea of power to weight. Not sure I'd want to drive one with a TT BBC. :-)
I hope the TT BBC did some chassis modifications as the factory cage structure is just not very stiff. Another mod Jay did was lower the engine around 4" or 100 mm thanks to a drysump system and some hacking of the transaxle bellhousing. |
Front is nearing completion:
http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2602-2/if2_003.JPG http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2602-2/if2_015.JPG "Classic" RSR reinforcement is being done. I got ideas for in-situ reinforcement from RSR threads/pictures on this site. We also opted to weld one of cage pipes directly into shock tower, which will hopefully make car more rigid. Right now, chassis is something between full spaceframe and usual self-supporting sheet metal frame. http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2602-2/if2_004.JPG http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/2602-2/if2_006.JPG |
Goran,
Looking good!! I always am eager to read your latest updates. Makes my project look like child's play. Is the spoiler on which Tokan is working going to be a plug, so you can make mold from it and then a lighter one? Or is it the production, but also prototype version? Doug |

From there on, there won't be any front lid, whole front/front spoiler/lights will be removed in one piece by pulling two levers and sliding it off. |

New plenum is finished (red one is old one, it's for sale together with old intercoolers if someone is interested):

Otherwise it would be very hard to avoid go-cart steering feel (in the bad way): http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/0403/if2_012.jpg http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/0403/if2_034.jpg http://www.itsfun.nu/if2_2006/0403/if2_033.jpg |
I love the grinder picture because you know hes gonna stop, pick up the coke sitting next to him even though some metal shavings got into it, and take a nice long drink. Fuchin hardcore Swedes.
Keep em coming Goran! |
I am a Swede !! :D

There was no AC/DC TIG welder around so turbo plumbing was made with what was available at the shop: stainless steel plumbing:

What front struts are you using? Looks like a gusstted Bilstein lower with a coil over fixture attached? OR Is it the early RSR style?
Are you changing the lower A-arms, too? OR going with a 935 style? GREAT JOB and GREAT update! |
Just my .02 .. first off super, great job !!! Although I'm wondering why it is when you made a custom upper shock mount it didn't have any adjustability for changing camber
