Yes this is the plan....
Scrap the Brembo GTPs. Get 930 brakes. Finish the car with the stock 5-hole hubs and the Lindseys. Get the center lock hubs made. When ready (March) mount the hubs and take measurements. Have a set of 10x15 and 12x15 917 replica wheels (centerlock) made for street use. Have a set of 9.5x18 and 11x18 Kodiak wheels made for track use. Build a roof rack to carry the Kodiaks to the track (I believe in driving the car to the race track and driving it back). Sell the Lindseys. |
Those wheel choices should make for a stunning contrast.:)
|
Teo, please use forged, not cast.
You could mill using forged blanks and have race car strong centers and then use the outers in whatever you need. BTW, I choose fuchs anyway. Or HRE style mesh. I don't personally understand the center lock need other than making the car duplicate a race car in apperiance or making a race car. Didn't porsche use the big wide fuchs to race? |
no porsche's used fancy centerlocking wheels...lol.
i think you have made the 100% perfect decision!!!! i can't wait for some more update photos... |
I have all kinds of doubts... especially about being able to stop the thing with the 930 brakes, 2,400lbs and 380 ponies pushing from behind.

Teo,
Interesting idea about down-sizing the brakes. Contact Clint at RebelRacing if you want him to restore and rebuild a set of 930 calipers for you. I'm very pleased what he did for my calipers. Clint also raised the spindles on my struts some years ago. He also did the machine work on my rear calipers so they mate to the 911 trailing arms. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1166657257.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1166657274.jpg http://www.rebelracingproducts.com Doug |
930 brakes are actually very good, with the right pads and front cooling ducts they should handle your 2400 pound car just fine.

I'm curious what tires you'd be using on these wide 15" wheels? |
18" is great for slicks. You won't be running those....they heat cycle out ASAP.

At this moment I am trying to swap my Brembo GTPs and Carrera trailing arms for 930 Brakes and trailing arms. I know the 930 brakes are avaliable... difficult to find are the turbo trailing arms... |
Matteo, I was able to get some 930 trailing arms from DC Automotive. They had several sets back then (4/06). They weren't cheap. $2400 if I remember correctly...I'll have to check. If different, I'll PM you.

That's it! It just stops like this after reading for over an hour! Not fair............
|
Hey, no complaining....none of us are having to pay the shop labor and parts bills!
|
Teo,
Amazing dream you're living... Enjoy the journey and don't forget to keep posting pictures! -Jasper |
It's the Holidays tough time to put the squeeze on the skilled guys that have done so much already.
This thing is gonna be hell on wheels before spring! :D I considered the 930 arms and passed. Plenty of very fast guys running aluminum SC arms too. |
Incredible.......

Plus this is still a street/DE car. i think it would need some more mods to be a competitive race car (full cage, camber boxes in the rear, fg body panels etc). All is good. Keith and Aaron are going to put a squeeze on it next week. Happy new year to all of you! |
This thing isn't done yet?

I'm addicted!
I late to the party but I just spent the last two hours reading this saga.

My goal for completion is early to mid-April. That way I'll have time to shake it down before the trip North. |

Everything is here now. Also Keith and Aaron have been working on a solution to retain off the shelves rotors with te centerlock hubs... and it looks like they have it... So there is no turning back now.... 917 15" replica wheels for the street and Kodiak 18" for the track. So little progress has been made on the car itself even if Keith finished Friday to move the trailing arm pick up points... From now on it will go much quicker... right Keith? Here are the pics http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168809133.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168809143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168809155.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168809169.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168809180.jpg |

Good move on the 930 arms. I know it is a lot of work, but when you increase the track back there and put on sticky tires, you can break the std arms with a car of even moderate weight. Looking great!
|
How come you did not make the PU points adjustable for camber?
|
Because I have 2 little girls that are dying to ride on Papi's blue Porsche.
I wanted to retain the 2 back seats... This is still gonna be daily driver (I have plans to replace the 993 with something a little silly). |
Can't wait to see what silly is!
(absolutely no insult intended) |
Silly is an American car, a street legal race car... originally built to beat Ferrari at their own game...
In its 2002 reincarnation it became the pace car for an entire company... It hit the market in 2005. 4,000 were produced of which only 500 exported. 0-60 in 3.3s, 550 hp yada yada.... We are moving back to England this Summer.... It would be nice to bring back a piece of America with us (together with the 2 little American girls).... |
So the 911 will be done before you leave?
A Ford GT isn't silly ... it's a GREAT car to drive and an instant collector's item. |

I'm "Blue" with envy
I have to say that I have committed the sin (at least in my heart) of envy the more I see of this project! When this is done, lust is my next transgression..... and it won't be in my heart either.
Bless me Father, for I have sinned...... :) :) :) |
