Brian,

Oh, I thought if any of the dimensions have changed that a side shot showing how far out/off the engine the turbos now stood. I think your orientation should help exh. installation with your current bumper.

Will it physically fit? Or is it just going to burn your bumper off?

I believe that is Princeton Wong's car. Awsome machine.

Luke, the Monster exchangers have not been altered (yet). I wanted to clock the turbos and see exactly what we had before firing up the chop saw. I need a piece of front tin to see if they will fit (have made a couple offers but nothing yet). Careful measurements show them to be close but not binding. The rear bumper is fiberglass so it is pretty iffy at this point. I'll know when I get the tin.

There are still a couple more items I need. One is a fuel head. Anybody got a core?

Here is a snap of my 3.8 monster that is in the works. Still need to address the exhaust and turbos.

Good Lord man, that intercooler looks as big as the engine!
Now I understand your tail issue.
How ARE you going to cover that?

Another question for you Mic, how did you like the heat from the GHL exchangers you had on the other engine?

Brian:
Frankly, I only had one side connected because I found after header install that the heater pipe on the drivers side needs to be on before header install. Couldnt get it on after (without shock removal).
Anyhow, when living in So. California you dont need heat and I mostly drove it in the summer so i wasnt motivated to correct it.

Anyhow, in that configuration I didnt have much heat. I didnt block off the drivers side either - so i wouldnt base my experience on the header's capability for heat.

Didn't Mike have that under a "off the shelf" FG tail? Have you asked him or can you tell from old photos what he used?

Yes it did fit under mike's stock profile turbo tail. He has a carrera intake, but i am trying to get it on a 993 with plastic intake which sits about 1" above the top of the fan (a bit higher than the carrera intake). He did a test fit on a stock C4 to see where it would fit in reference to the deck lid lip and it look promising. I hope to have a test fit in my chassis by next week. If it is a no go, then i may have to loose the I/C and go with a different core or look at a different solution.

Brian:, maybe you might be interested in the I/C. The inlets are at the right placement for your turbos.

Pic of the side profile. It is sitting slightly higher because i need to shave more off of the mounts for it to sit lower.

Can a 911 engine be lowered some through the mounts if you just needed say 10mm or so? I would think that with EFI you could run it at a slight angle. Or if running solid mounts like myself, couldn't you just place a 7-10mm spacer as a heavy washer ( I guess better would be custom Al mounts to reduce forces on bolt and increase friction, but that would be interesting to get made) on all four mounts. I don't recall how far you could go before shifter interference on the front at the chassis hole. CG would go down

Brian,

PM your contact info. Ben is sending my HE back this week. We had a delay as I needed some custom flanges for the GT20's. Ben was able to fabricate these for me too and is just sending them all back together. I'd still be happy to send them down if your still playing with ideas...at least they'll truely bolt on now.

That would be great!
PMed you my contact info.

I recieved a full set of engine tin on Monday. Now we'll see if these turbos will fit without header mods.
I may be sorry when I test fit your exchangers and see how well they tuck up on the sides. Great excersize though and a good opportunity to see the real world issues involved in planning something like this.

I have been following this thread, because I too have a pair of GT20s for a 3.2 TT project.

My question is what is done to support the turbos on twin turbo applications. Are they hanging from the short heat exchangers, or do they have support brackets like the single turbo? Without brackets, there is a lot of mass vibrating the pipes, but adding rigid brackets can cause stress due to thermal expansion. (This is not a problem on the single turbos, because the pipes are long enough to flex.)

The side mounts will use stock 993tt exchangers. To my knowledge there are no additional supports other than those used for the exhaust system. Whatever exhaust system Luke uses will require some sort of support.
The rear mount tubos are a different story. I will have to come up with something due to the weight of the turbos being so far back from the heat exchanger mounting points on the heads.

Just got the HE's back with the flipped flanges and thought I'd try them on before sending them south to ya, Brian. These are rough moch ups so no critisms....I know a paper towel won't hold the turbo in place ( it might catch on fire).

Midlife,

I'd like to see your GT's. Mine had interesting flanges, but Ben was able to solve the challenge. Not your average $15 flanges though How were you thinking about mounting yours?

The driver side is showing some near interferences at the actuator for the wastegate. It doesn't touch but close to valve cover.

The flange on the HE is closer than my liking to the valve cover than I would have thought or liked. Another 1/2" would go a long way to reduce heat. Let me know what you think when you get them Brian.

What type of turbos are those?
I assume Ben made the adapters for you. It looks like there are some good and bad where fitment is concerned.
Right off the bat I see that the passengers side placement leaves some room for the main engine oil line that loops behind the engine, if you have the SSI style line. Mine would have to be swapped out.
The driver's side is kind of hard to tell from the pictures.
My turbos are stock K16s, I don't know what you might learn from them. I will bolt them up and take close measurements to compare.
What are you going to do about heat? Those inlets/outlets will have to be changed somehow. I just purchased a set of back-dated heat/fan ducts here on the board. Hopefully they will arrive soon and we can see what may be done to hook up the heat.
Are you using ITBs on that engine?

ITB's on this engine? Yes, but this isn't the turbo engine. Its off to the side and still all dirty and ugly. It is still sadly many stages behind....this is the 3.0 that's going in the 72'

I've got them box'd up if you still want to have a hand at them after the photos. I can send them out tomorrow if you want to play with them for awhile. I won't need them immediately so if you wish to try out a set of the TT this might be your chance for the price of shipping one way.

I have a KKK, but I still think I might try out these GT's. I will likely end up running some kind of custom/fab'd oil lines. Remember, my oil tank is in the CORRECT location unlike most 930's or yours

Let me know and they can be in your hands next week.

Rarlyl8,

This project has given me inspiration for my next project (not that I am finished with my current one) but I would think the rear mount may give more room for valve adjustments. Also moving the turbo further away from the header helps keep it cooler.

Luke,

My GT20's are quite different from yours. They have a 5 bolt flange with the turbine and waste gate exits divided. The compressor outlet is also much longer. They are GT2052S with compressor A/R .53 and turbine A/R .5.
My daughter has my camera, but I will take some pictures in a few days.

I do have some good compressor maps for them if you are interested.

Right now my plan is to mount them at the back with the exhausts towards the center. I did not want to have to deal with the oil lines and valve adjustment issues from the side mount configuration.

Mike
