Hi Keith,

Any chance you could help me out with sourcing for the ITB's?
I am building a 3.7 on a base 3.6 engine with a 993 RSR Intake Manifold for a 87 backdate to 72 and I think those ITB's that you have in the picture might work?
Also would you be interested in doing the same conversion on my 964 Oil Tank?

Thanks,
Dave

OK, updates!

We took the shell with another client's 911 to e-coat - here are some action photos (Apple Iphone quality, of course):

The pair of 911s headed to chemical strip (these had previously been baked and phosphate coated prior to rust repair and modification)

Lonely tubs in the recieving yard at the stripping facility. You can better understand visually the jigs that they must be mounted in for the e-coat process here.

Chemically-stripped 911s being racked at the e-coat facility. It is extremely difficult to find a facility that can handle the length of the 911 unibody - if it were a full size domestic car, the body would actually be shorter in most cases, since everything from the firewall forward unbolts. Not so for the 13.5 ft Porsche unibody. Add to that 6' of width (flared cars) and 4' of height, and you need a shop with siginificant capacity in their e-coat tanks. Most of those facilities aren't available for 'jobber' work, being amost exclusively employed by the big 3...

Headed into the first of many, many dip tanks...

Kerplunk!

More tank action...

and so on, and so forth for several more dip tanks...

Coming out of the drying oven many tanks later

Shiny black, e-coated new Porsche. - looks like a child's plastic model car before assembly, right?)

And, Aaron just after attempting to explain to the nice policeman that the 45' trailer destroyed our transmission after the mountain climb the previous evening...
leaving us stranded in the median on the interstate.

The unibody is now getting powder coat, then it goes BACK on a dolly for panel fitment and exterior paint work.

Keith,

Where did you guys have that done?
I'm sure it is far away from me here in Los Angeles!

Thanks,
Dave

So are those TWM 3006 throttle bodies? I like the individual design vs. the PMO bodies that aren't all the same (straight).

Keith, very cool. I take it the phosphate is zinc and the ecoat is epoxy? I'll bet it's my product We have about 75 - 80% of the tanks in north America.

Awesome build.. you guys started in 2007, essentially. It is now 2010. Have you been working on it continuously or were there long dry spells? what would it take to do this in straight calendar time? 6 months?

best regards,

Michael

Yes, long spells whilst work was happening on other significant builds, and a steady stream of cage building and racecar work for day-to-day business. Plus a little product company launch and nuturing...

- we stay pretty busy.

If the client wants a project like this to be a shop-wide priority, then 6-8 months start to finish is realistic.

I would love to see a "ballpark" cost on the whole stripping/phospate/e-coating. What a fantastic way to begin, with an "as-new" base tub!

It's a roller now and going for paint.

Keith sent these a week or so ago following e-coat and powder.

Hi,
I don't see any front fenders, going for e-coat. why?
Are you going to use F/G instead?
If so what are the advantages of using F/g front bumpers instead of steel?
Many Thanks.

Yes, just why not use both front and back f/g to make it lighter?
I was thinking my be it's a better choice in C2-RSR conversion to go f/g front?

Fiberglass rear fenders have cut-line issues unless you like Dzus fasteners.
