Tech Spec. Booklet question

Can the information provided by a 1974 911 Technical Specification Booklet be gleaned from the Workshop Manuals?

I've been outbid on ebay for the past couple of years when these come up for sale. I guess I'm just not willing to put up the money necessary to secure one. I don't care about the collectivity of them, I just want the information located within. Even a badly hand copied one would suffice.

So, if that's all located in the big manuals (which I have) I'll forget about trying to get one. It's just that I've never seen one so I don't know what the contents are. Thanks.

In a word, no. They are really a companion sort of thing. There is a lot of info in the spec book that isn't in the manual. More important for me, the info in the spec book is quick to get to, unlike the manuals.

They are available other places. Ebay isn't always the best place to get something. Try a google search.

I may know of one at a local shop, sitting on a shelf. It's either a '74 or '75, I can't remember which. I'll try to call tomorrow and find out which one it is.

Washington State is relatively close to partsobsolete annual camp out. There is a guy usually there that sells the Tech spec books. I bought a relatively new 72,73 manual for $18.

This is a continuing issue.

There isn’t a single easy source for Porsche technical information. Pelican is one.

I have spent 1/3+ century collecting Porsche technical information. It is way too difficult.

PAG/PCNA currently seem to think it is in their best (financial) interest to keep this proprietary. I think that is very short-sited and wrong.

The cure is to convince PAG that information dissemination is in their best interest. We can do that.

PAG has seldom been responsive to the “public.” They have seldom seen the connection between their product and their customers other than to make sales. A few exceptions are racers and feedback from some special people. That still exists but there is more.

We can TELL PAG what WE want. There are good arguments for the dissemination of information. There are also good counter-arguments against withholding that information. It is up to us.

The dissemination of technical information to PAG customers/supporters is in PG’s best interests. I don’t understand why they don’t see that. Don't they want us on their side?

PKG was perhaps more responsive. Dr. Ferry Porsche knew who ultimately paid the bills – us who buy Porsches. Has current management lost that perspective?

WE, all the owners of prior manufactured Porsches, are Porsche’s best sales force. PAG needs to realize this.

Write to Porsche A.G. I recommend you have your comments translated into German and then checked (for meaning) by you.

We, Porsche’s customers, direct PAG fate. If PAG doesn’t respond properly . . . well the auto industry is littered with failures. I don’t want that for PAG.

Concur. I've often wondered why they don't have that stuff for free download on their website. It's not like they're protecting any secret. The car and its technology is over 30 years old.

I like your line about who pays their wages - that's us.

I found a couple for you. Both are brand new, one is nice and white, the other has a cover that has yellowed with age. Call Rennsport Werkstatt at (918) 663-2906 and talk to Rick.

I don't understand. These original specifications books are available from a wide variety of sources. Apparently Pelican carries them, and the Performance Products catalogue has a list of them all the way from the 356 to the 968 for $30 to $40.

Grady’s right (as usual). If we don’t make our voices heard this problem will never go away. I don’t have 30 years to collect technical information on my cars, I just want to repair them correctly and efficiently when they break so I can drive them some more. That other car maker from Baden Wurttemburg supports its products why not Porsche?

This thread prompted me to finally place an order for the spec book from our host. A few days later I received an email informing me that WKD-421-020-OEM, listed as "Shipping in 3 business days", is not available. This has been happening a lot recently and it is very frustrating. I realize that the parts channels are beyond our hosts' control but it would be nice if there was some way to tell when/if a part is certainly available instead of just probably shipping in a few days.

I just placed an order with the other PP (for this item as well as a couple others unavailable here) hoping they may have a different supply. I hate doing business with those guys but I don't really see much choice...
