I just traded in my personalized plates for generic ones.

Why? It's not that I didn't like what it said, or that I was worried about what other would think. I'm a designer so I'm always looking at things from a design perspective. The thing I realized when I looked at the back of my car is that the eyes always go to the plate first. I didn't want the plate to attract attention, I wanted the beauty of that duck-tail and rear fenders to be what the eyes see first.

Also, there are plenty of words on the back of my car already. The big PORSCHE across the back, and even the Carrera decal on the tail. It was word overload. I even got rid of the Carrera license plate frame and replaced it with a plain one. I prefer the cleaner look.

Anybody want to buy a Carrera license plate frame?

That's mine on the left.

On this subject my father had a Nissan (Datsun?) 300z back in the day. His name is Ernst Rudolf Dorsch- so he made his plate ERD-Z. One day one of his coworkers took a permanent marker and made it NERD-Z. We all had a pretty good laugh at that. After he sold the Z he never had another personalized plate though.

I never had vanity or personalized plates for the Porsche, but I did manage to get a normal plate when I had to replace mine after five years. I happened to get one that was 911-***. I can't remember the letters, but I remember the numbers just fine.

About the vehicles in the signatures, if people want to put every vehicle they have ever owned, that is up to them. I chose to list some of the one that I currently own and have restored. There were a few more that I have, BMW 750iL, 1 Ton Dodge Cummins Diesel Dually, but it won't allow any additional room to add anything. I list them, not because of trying to say, "see what I have" but I have had made many friends with people that have contacted me about a lot of the vehicles I have listed, because they are wanting advice, parts sources, or "how to" DIY info on some of these vintage vehicles.

The only vanity or personalized plate that I ever did obtain, is on my matching numbers, 1973 340 Magnum Road Runner. It reads 73 340 RR. We are limited to seven spaces(digits) in this state.

Yep. You can get lucky and get a state issued plate with 911 in it

Wow teachers that earned enough money to retire and have not one but two Porsches. Congrats Jerry

Barney911rs,
Yes, we (both teachers) are very lucky...no kids, saved our $s and invested well. PERA took 20% of our salaries every month for 32 years and invested it for us also. We had to retire... we could not afford to live on our working teacher's pay when our PERA retirement pay and savings/investment annuities were more!
Had to sell the 87 and transfered the PERADYZ plates over to the red 95, 993. I wanted to keep both cars, but could not...no such thing as a "wealthy" teacher.

Jerry
