So, how many window switches have you replaced?

When I bought my 911 2 years ago the PO handed me an extra window switch and said: "here, you'll need this - they're notorious for breaking".

I've already used the spare and today it broke. Naturally, in the open position and on a rainy day. Don't mean to ***** - things could be a lot worse these days.

This is one of those extra's like the DME Relay that you should have an extra on hand.

I recall using at least 5 over 20 years. Sometimes they seem to fail on hot days, but then resume functioning after exercising them.

I have fixed a few of those broken switches over the years. Many times it is the little plastic pin hinge that breaks off the button. I have drilled out the old broken plastic hinge pin and replaced with a little piece of metal taken from a small nail. The 3 in my car have been repaired for years now using that fix. Although its not an expensive part I feel cheated to have to replace it for such a small broken part plus the fact that I'm cheap.

I've only replaced one switch one time in my 27 years of ownership.

Yeah, but the windows go down every time I drive one, so they get more use than you'd think.

I replaced all three of mine.
Turns out my regulator motor was bad, whoops.

Oh well, preventative maintenance.

The ones with brass terminals are way better than the ones with silver colored tabs. They cost more too.

Two last week, started the window going down of its own accord at the most un predictable
times...
Then wouldn't go back up after alot of cursing and crying!!!
Inevitably started running the battery down until totally removed....surprised they were one
on each side!

I've had my 84 Carrera for close to 2 years and replaced 2 of them with less expensive copies. The third one failed (broke at the pin) and forced me to visit my local Porsche parts center. I paid more for it, but the build is much better and feels much more solid than the copies.

As far as I can tell I still have the originals in my 78... I've owned the car for about 8 years...

I have replace two in 85 Carrera. I have owned the car for 13 years. I carry a spare in the glove box next to my spare DME relay and fuses.

I have owned seven Pcars in 35 years and never replaced one. Took some out for cleaning the contacts though

Replaced the passenger side 3 years ago when I first got my Carrera. No problems since.
