3.2 Trans cooler questions....
Hi
Discovered my recent purchase included a transmission cooler (euro 3.2). Do these really make a big difference? Also, why did they only fit them to the Euro models? Just curious.... Cheer R |

Porsche has a history of downgrading the performance capabilities of it's products that are shipped to NA. I'm also sure that the importers here had/have a say it what is offered on this side of the pond.

the 231 hp of a 3.2 euro was about all a 915 could take, hence the cooler.

Lucky you that you got a factory cooler. If you use the car at track day events, it'll really provide a benefit for you. The heat of high rpm usage, and heat from a LSD if you have one, will be reduced by having a radiant cooler like that.

Can you take some pictures of where the lines route and the cooler itself?
Is there a pump as well? Very cool stuff.

Hey Bill, great pics!!
You're showing the internal spray bars in those photos above - my understanding was that the 84-86 cars didn't necessarily come with the spray bars (additional option), even if they had the pump and cooler? I certainly had to have my spray bars retro-fitted..

the '84 -86 versions were targeted for street use(ok Autobahn) temp control only.

In my opinion, a cooler is really essential if you want your transaxle to survive much track use -- but is less important for U.S. street driving.
