Good suggestion. I've got a set of both that I'll install at the same time.

I can't imagine an additional 75 rwhp and 75 rwtq over what I have now.

Do you happen to have a dyno graph of your engine with the Porsche super sport cams installed?

Also does it idle fine with those cams?

Scott,
I sent you the data, you can plot if you are inclined.

It idles fine with a little more lope than stock. This is not a wild, high rpm setup. Torque drops off around 6500. I rev to 6700 max.
The solid lifter cams should follow a more aggressive profile than hydraulic.

Doug

Bill, Can you tell me where you sourced the RS pullys, console, (AC mount), and heat tube? My 3.6 is out getting a rebuild so would be nice to tidy up the engine.
Thanks in advance.

"3.6 conversion: Any 'while you're in there' things I should do before installing?"

Yes, take a picture of yourself standing in the engine bay and post it.

Buck,
Thom Fitzpatrick made the CF heat snorkels. I think he is called Widebody911 on this board.

The RS Pulley can come from Porsche. Clewett has a ribbed belt serpentine conversion, if you want to spend $600 or so. Patrick Motorsports also has a setup. I like the Clewett setup, but it is spendy.

Doug

Mine are all factory parts

There are several nice aftermarket versions of the pulleys, I believe Steve Weiner has a real nice dual belt RS type, if not they certainly have a single belt RS type upper & lower pulley set.

the AC console delete is nla, just cut down an AC version and it wll be the same.

I have a factory plastic and one one of Thom Fitzpatricks carbon heat tubes don't know if either is still available

Thank you also Bill. The AC console delete will be a nice little project. With apoligies to my ignorance is there any contact information for Steve or Thom? I"d be looking for the single belt type pully.

So Scott- what did you decide to do? As we've discussed, and as I've been contemplating, the 3.6 conversion makes a lot of sense for a whole host of reasons.....

First and foremost- reliable power. I know people like to throw out that a nicely set up 3.2 will make XX power. But that's at one rpm point, usually 6000 or more. We all have to consider the area under the curve, especially the torque curve. A 3.6 will make a whole lot more torque across a broader power band than a 3.2. And while everyone wants to make peak HP, it's nothing more than a mathematical calculation of torquexrpm/5250.

Second- you get twin plug and high compression from the factory, all of which is uber expensive to do to a 3.2 (or 3.4)

Third- For your application you get hydraulic valve lifters. Personally I prefer the adjustable ones for track but in your case, hydraulic is great for street.

So, does all this sound familiar? Like the conversation we had last month while I was towing to VIR?

Drop the 3.6 in and drive the car. If you don't like it, you can still pull the engine and sell it.

Back when I was doing this the twin pulley kits weren't available.

You can get a full Jerry Woods RS twin belt kit, which consists of upper & lower pulley and belts for the price of an oem 993Rs lower pulley. That's the way I'd go today.

I would install this one from CLEWETT ENGINEERING: Peformance and Innovation , if cost weren't an object:

Well after thinking long and hard about this, and after going back and reading this thread a few times, I've decided to keep the 3.6 and go ahead with the install.

I want to add a few goodies to the engine and car so it may be awhile before the engine is actually installed and running.

Stay tuned!

I'll be good for another data point on this.

Just currently sold my 3.2 w/ SSI's, M&K sport exhaust, SW chip, 964 cams, larger throttle body.
Was making in the 230-235hp range.
I a very nice motor that had good power but still got 30mpg on the highway.

Going in soon will be a non-Varioram 3.6 with RS cams, larger 52mm intakes, Steve Weiner flashed DME, solid lifters w/ better springs & Ti retainers, 993 HE's and a 3 outlet rally style muffler.

Sold my mag 915 7:31 gearbox as well.
Replacing it with a Euro Carrera w/ the ext cooler loop. Rebuilding with SCRS type gearing, Guard 40/80 LSD, internal spray bar and 8:31.

Car already had big suspension and brakes.

TRE Motorsports doing the work.
Should be complete by ~March.

I can give you the seat of the pants comparison at that time.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you get for your 3.2? You can send me the answer in a PM if you don't want to post here.

It'll be interesting to hear your seat of the pants comparison between the two.

I'm gathering some go fast goodies for my 3.6 but it'll be mild (at least initially) compared to yours. Steve Wong chip, PMS single pulley conversion, backdated hybrid engine tins with heat, and a general tune up before installation. I haven't decided on the muffler yet. It'll either be a Dynomax or a M&K.
