The original OEM tail thread collective documentation

This thread is a place to post photos of known factory installed tails duck to current, This will be a resource for you to look and compare your tail or a tail you are thinking about buying to try and help determine if it is authentic. Im hoping to see lots of underside tail shots as well as some sexy original cars wearing original tails. This thread is to try and document some of these tails for future restorations or purchases.

please include a brief description of why you know or think yours is original.

cheers ed

here is a few pics of the 75 carrera tail that i have on a car that i am the third owner of and have the history to the present day. i will get better pics of the underside but you can see it has a metal tray on the underside and a piece of plastic trim around the perimeter under the base.

1. Lip around tail rubber
2. Base of tail metal
3. Tail it self fiberglass bonded to metal base
4. Metal heat shield or cosmetic tray metal stamped
5. A plastic trim or seal around the outer perimeter underside of tail edging.
6. Plastic grill
7. Alloy carrera emblem on center rear of tail

will post detailed pics when i get a chance

76 Turbo Tail with most inside pieces

Thats a good idea, I went looking and I ll start this with mine.
1976 930, Nov 75 production, #9306800114 for the USA. Viper Green Metallic/camel? 66,000 miles
Some of the inside were chewed some from a long trans installed when I got the car in 1992. I drove it for a while in the 90's but it survived a divorce but then I neglected it for some time and so I have much to do now but starting with getting fuel out of the lines and fresh in.

Great Idea for a thread. I predict that we will have many variations of original tails and in the end it may be difficult to prove/disprove originality. I hope to be proved otherwise. I submit a scan from a 1975 911 sales brochure.

notice in the scan that there is no under tray and that the center rib of the metal deck has been cut off and not extended to the tail base . also note that the car is a euro and seems a bit above euro height?

so the saga begins, whats real and whats fake

It is a CIS car, looks to be at US height. Early 75s had the smaller bumperettes. I'd bet it is a US bound Carrera.

75 Group 4 tail. May have also; been used on 3.0 RS cars but was too long for TUV so they were not mounted when leaving the factory.

Two rough pictures of a 75 US Carrera #171 tail... Car had AC but was removed.

I currently have a perfect 75 US Carrera #391 tail on my current coupe, with tray, will get shots soon.
