One of the reasons I dumped my "modern performance cars" for a classic sports car...
I don't need...ESP, anti lock brakes, electronic interface for a phone or iPod, MMI, tire pressure monitors, or any other computer diagnostics that requires a monitor in the dash. |

This discussion makes me realize that my '65 912 left the factory without carpets (it had rubber mats), air-conditioning, an effective heater, power seats, power windows, ABS, a radio, a couple of instrument dials, power door locks, sunroof, alarm, power mirrors, catalytic converter, a cassette player, a gas heater, some sound deadening, an oil tank, traction control, a big battery, two extra cylinders, etc., etc. With half a tank of gas, it now weighs 2,050 lb. It also cost me $4,000.

I've driven a 911SC factory lightweight for 15 years. How much you can do without depends on how you want to use the car and where you live. I now live AL and can no longer do without A/C as the summer is too long to miss. When I lived in IL the car was only driven in the spring and fall, what a waste.
I finally realized life is too short to not enjoy driving so I sold the lightweight and bought one with A/C and a sunroof. I absolutely LOVE those 2 items. That lightweight SC was a furnace inside with no soundproofing, no pop-out windows, thin carpet, no A/C and no sunroof. I can do without all the electrical junk in the "new" car and may remove some of it. I do like the electric mirrors and having an electric window on the passenger's side is really handy. Unless you are an auto-x or track junky you might be missing out on a lot a fun driving due to simple comfort. Something to consider. ![]()

For the reasons RarlyL8 mentions, I installed pop-out windows in my SC lightweight and it made a world of difference. I usually don't spend a lot of time setting in traffic, so when it's moving I can keep all 4 windows open and it stays very comfortable and there is no wind buffeting. You can carry a conversation at highway speed with all 4 open also.
