Finally completed the stripping of one of the front wheels today.
I don't know why but I haven't touched them for a couple of weeks although I have just about all the time I want now. ![]() Starting the other wheel this afternoon.

I took out my alternator. I was getting an occasional grinding noise. I found the rear plastic cap had fallen out. The rear bearing has a lot of play so time for a new one.
During the removal the car gods got even for my super easy motor mount change by breaking spark plug wire #6 when trying to unweld it from the distributor cap. At least I have a source for a replacement.

![]() ![]() On another note...my shift bushings are brand new (earlier 2014). I slightly abraised the outside this one when pulling it off the ball with pliers. Not even sure if it would show up on a picture. Should I replace it? ..or is a fresh greasing enough? Thanks all!

A few things in a day...or two
![]() 1. Replaced both oil lines from thermostat back, to oil tank and crossover pipe with high clearance units form Elephant Racing. With the car fairly low and wider than stocks rear wheels I should have done this a long time ago. The Elephant Racing units were of superb quality and went in easy. 2. Changed out my ducktail lid grill. I had a raw aluminum unit there prior but had not been very satisfied with its fit. I didn't blame it on the grill I had bought but more on that each and every FG part seems to be just a little different. I bought the grill material thru Amazon and cut it to fit right myself. Holes are of bigger size than my last and I switched to black to better match other pieces on the car. 3. Made a new radio delete plate, to match my horn delete, and bolted another plate with a couple of lap timers to it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

New Bilstein HD inserts in front (rears were done last weekend) and wow, what a difference! The old ones were totally shot. Does anyone know how to tell how old Bilstein inserts are from the part number stamped onto them? I'm curious. The new ones seemed to have a different (slightly) number...H1 instead of H0 at the end.
I had some steering wheel vibration at 65 mph that almost totally went away...which surprised me because I was sure it was tie rods or alignment (probably still needs both.) Also tried to install the targa bar seal rivets (plastic jobbies, with the special tool needed to insert) but learned the heard way that the old rivets are broken off inside the seal/holes - so I'll need to R+R the seal to properly insert new rivets. $300 for the OEM and $500 for the Porsche orig - yep that's gonna be a pricey job.

![]() ![]() Now I need to give it a good cleaning and work out a place to put the hazard light and rear defroster switches (it looks like they'll reach the radio delete plate, so that's option #1). Top tip...I greased pretty much every part of the shifter during install. I especially noted how the shifter was rubbing against the rubber buffer plate (pic below), and wondered if that was part of my problem with my getting into second gear...maybe the rubber buffer plate was swelling when it got hot, and the drag against the shifter made it harder to shift into second? Well I haven't had a chance to give it a proper drive yet, but at first impression it shifts a ton better. I can't tell you how thrilled this potential fix makes me. ![]()

Doug, I'm assuming from this that you've ditched the A/C?

That was "ditched" by the previous owner, but yes, the climate control knobs are gone. Don't really need A/C here in the PNW anyway. As long as I've got heat...
I still have the power door lock switch, but most likely won't put that back anywhere as it's not necessary and doesn't interfere with operation otherwise. Turns out you have to keep the hazard switch plugged in...I took a drive without it and none of my turn signals worked (at least on the dash they didn't...and I'm pretty positive on the car they didn't either). Plug the switch back in...all is fine. I pulled the radio a while ago, along with the cruise control module (that didn't work). Ironically, I may replace the cruise control module...in case I want to start taking long(ish) trips in the 911. ...maybe.

Installed a new set of Cocomats
Got some black/natural Cocomats. They really look sharp!
Also found a used fan control knob for $14 shipped from partsheaven.com - the OCD in me will really enjoy having that knob where it belongs...

Sent my tach and speedo off to NHS. With the engine rebuild, I'm redoing tach to 8k RPM and moving redline to 7200. Speedo will be refaced to 150mph. Both changes should also make things easier to see with Prototipo wheel.

Seems right now I'm playing with everyone else's 911s, knocked the snow off this one and stretched the short legs with the very snappy 3.4...
