2022 Engine Rebuilding Workshop.........
We are several weeks away before we start the 2022 Engine Rebuilding Workshop. All I ask for the participants is to come with an open mind and you will enjoy the 2 days we will be spending together. Come dressed in your work clothes and I will provide everything you need except lunch.
I will be in the venue before 7:30 AM each day and leave after 7:30 PM to prepare for the next day session. Each session will start at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In the past, some groups met for dinner the night before the first session. Organize among your group and my wife and I will join you. April 18-19 (Mon.-Tue.): 1. MST0188 2. ZAZ 3. AlKidd 4. This is cool! Any stories of past participants who have successfully rebuilt their Porsche engine?

Tony:
Please put in two reservation spots for April 25 & 26th Father Son Team of Will & Bill Leatherman |

Group contact information........
Al,
I will send you a group email so you could contact the other group members. The venue is located in East Norriton 19401 and close to a big shopping center (Plymouthmeeting Mall). Within a few miles from 19401, or walking distance from our meeting place, there are numerous places to gather and meet. So pick one place that you guys prefer and enjoy the company. Let me know, spouse and I will be joining the group. Thanks. Tony |
Looked on the map and see a ton of restaurants but that doesnt mean they are good. A local recommendation would be handy.

Waiver.........
To All Participants,
I will be sending to all the participants a copy of the waiver required by the building owner. We have done this every time we conducted the Engine Rebuilding Workshop since 2018. The builder owner is not liable for any injury sustained during the course of the workshop. I will have extra copies at the venue if you forgot to bring in your signed document. See you soon. Thanks. Tony |
Not a problem Tony. I think the only injury possible will be to our wallets as we try to build a spare engine after gathering all the knowledge.

Just wrapped up the 2 day session (April 19-20) with 4 other participants. I’ll need a bit more time to gather my thoughts and put them down in writing, so here’s a quick takeaway from me: absolutely brilliant. It’s insane how much work and effort goes into these 2 days and Tony does all of it by himself (who is an absolute gem by the way). Thank you again Tony and his wife for this great workshop
|
Are there any plans for classes in the future? My brother and I want to sign up asap.
|
@boyt91sc are you still in the business of conducting this class?

Engine Rebuilding Workshop for 2023.......
Quote:
Dwight, I had an Engine Rebuilding Workshop in April/May 2022 and done for the year. There are several inquiries like this one that came to my attention. I will wait till end of the year (December 2022) if there will be another Engine Rebuilding Workshop in April 2023. While I am strong and healthy, I will be 80 years old this winter and my memory is not good as it used to be. I would need a lesson plan so I could deliver the workshop and not forget something along the line. And finished the two (2) motors sitting in the garage which I have not attended for a while. Thanks for your interest. I will keep everyone posted. Tony |
Understood Sir! And thank you for the reply. Truth be told you are something like a legend in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area. Folks kept talking about this guy that had workshops out of his garage and I have been digging until recently to find the Legend. Take Care Sir and yes I will keep watching for the next signup date.
|
If you do Tony, I will come up for a repeat. At that point or close to it I can help with a lesson plan as well if needed.
|
I want to play......this is so cool. Planning on eventually giving my car to my son and his 3 son's to play with for years to come.
Let me know when this comes up again. |
Having been to his April class this year, I can honestly say, Tony has forgotten less than we we will ever know. His tricks, tips and ideas are well worth the cost of attending. I had a lot of experience with engine building but the cams and chains always concerned me. We covered setting up the timing in an hour. No more fear. I will build the engine of my dreams if I can ever find a cheap core.

Freak, You had more than two (2) years to find a substitute or offer your spot to anyone and did not do a thing except complain. You booked for a seat and you want a refund for backing out? I had refunded several payments to people that’s recorded in my PayPal. There were some participants that did not show up in their scheduled dates and were allowed to attend on different dates. One sent me an email a day before the event because he was worried about Covid-19 and attended a year later. After all expenses, I could barely get $20 per hour rate for the many hours needed to do the Engine Rebuilding Workshop and this is one of the reasons I am reluctant to do another Workshop. However, I like to express my sincere appreciation for many paid participants who were not able to attend but willingly offered to donate their registration fees to cover the rent. Rental expenses is the heavy burden I need to cover. Tony |
Tony - I found this thread after tracking through a lot of your posts, and recall the posting. At the time, I had just bought an 88 Targa and was not yet at a point I could find myself attending one of your classes. Having said that, you have always been one of a handful of contributors whose inputs are like gospel. If you find yourself in 2023 offering a class, please keep my in mind as I would love to attend. Back in grad school 30 years ago, my wife bought me a 2-day class at Jerry Woods shop in CA, and had lunch with Bruce Anderson as well. I only wish I had a time machine.
|
I would love to attend again. Sure one of us can open up a garage or workshop and get a class together if you travel close with your gear. I’m right down in Northern maryland
|
Perhaps it can be made more "reality" based and we can just build my motor :)

2023 Engine Rebuilding Workshop...........
Quote:
Bugstrider, I might consider conducting one in 2023 but there will be some drastic changes. Instead of conducting the Workshop in the same venue or location we had in the past, I am contemplating doing it at home in my 3-car garage/carport. Moving the engines, engine hoist, tools, tables, chairs, etc. to the venue is too much work and effort for me to undertake. I was able to transport the equipment and tools before by myself but it is becoming too much work for an old man like myself. Having the Workshop at my place could reduce the physical effort needed to get all the things we need for the classes. The number of participants per group will be less than 8. I had 10 participants per group in 2018, then reduced to 8 per session in 2021 & 2022. For the next one in 2023, I like to have 6 participants per session. The participants will have more hands on experience for engine tear down and assembly. The dates would be between mid-April 2023 to mid-May 2023. There is one problem I have to attend at the moment. I received a PM a week ago from a 2020 registered participant that he was not aware that the April 2020 Workshop was cancelled due to Covid-19. Could you believe this? And he will report me to the forum moderators for stealing his $250 registration fee. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks. Tony |
Ha Ha, to quote my wife after volunteering at Rennsport reunion "those Porsche guys are kinda
a**holes." No good deed goes unpunished but I for one am very grateful for you and all the guys like you that give so much to this community. |
Tony, I would like to attend if you host one again, sorry I missed it early this year, just too busy.
I'd be happy to send you $50, maybe others would too, to get that jerk to leave you alone. |
I would do that as well, just let me know.

That’s insane!!! SO MANY posts about the class delay due to covid. If you get banned we will petition! You are one of the most valuable resources on this board! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Tony - any number you come up with for the class, add $50 and you are made whole. Might I recommend that you have a rate that is non-refundable, and a higher refundable rate. This will shake out some potential participants from the start. I think that you will likely have a waiting list for a class as well. Pending the final dates, I would certainly attend.
I have been spending all of my evenings reading, and absorbing to convince myself that I can rebuild my engine and install a clutch as well. For me, these are bucket list items, and this might give me enough confidence to make me dangerous. |
I can’t believe I missed this until now, this seems like an amazing opportunity. I would love an opportunity to attend at some point in 2023.
|
im in if its Mid May . and i will definitely chip in $50 to calm that Covid victim down
|
I will sweeten the pot for my place in line - will bring a cooler of cold beer...
