Unhappy Am I Missing The Listing?

I posted this @ 914Club.com; this will all become very clear.

I've lurked/perused/chuckled-through a few b]911[/b]/930/944/951/964/968/993/996 sites (Whew! Did I leave any out?), some sites which are visited by a few individuals here, and others I happened to bump into just doing a nosey search.

Noticed I bolded a few bloodlines. Now, is there some sort-of "anal vision" that I've suddenly inherited, or have I noticed a tendancy for some 911-type owners (very few I've seen that don't) that absolutely FEEL the need to rattle off the entire "additional" (i.e. aftermarket) options off the window sticker? The only thing usually left out is the price; guess we don't want to open that anal port TOO wide.

Here's a classic example (bite me if you recognize any of these): Gemballa Aerodynamics, Europipe Stage II Loud, AVS 315/25/19 Rears, AVS 235/35/19 Fronts, Semi-Solid Forged SSR-GT3's, Bilstein PSS-9 Adjustable Coilovers, Bailey Diverter Valves, Tequipment Rollbar
* OR *
Midnight Blue / Savanna beige leather, PSE, ROW M030, GT3 Aero, 18" Carrera's, B&M, Mid Blue Console, RUF steering wheel and Pedals, Techart Mats, Deviating Carpet, Silver crest, Ralph Booth No Turn Centers
* OR *
RUF aluminium pedals, B&M short shift, K&N air filter, Bailey DVs, Painted bumperettes and lower rear bumper, Silver vision bulbs front and rear, blue vision side markers, PIAA fogs, Autobahnd Roadblock paint protection, tinted windows, Das Schild hood liner, HRE 542R 19" wheels, Brembo 8-piston 15" fronts and 4-piston 14" rears, Bilstein PSS-9 adjustable coilovers, H&R swaybars front and rear, Techart floor mats
* OR *
Carrera Rear Spoiler, Flared Rocker Pannels, PCM, Full Leather, Natural Leather, Advanced Technic Package, Design Package, Comfort Pakage, Porsche Convertible Child Seat with Airbag Deactivator, Xpel Paint Protection, Passport SRX, Smoke Side Markers, B&M Shortshifter, RUF Aluminum Pedals, Fabspeed Exhaust, Fabspeed Headers, ROW M030 Suspension
* OR *
GIAC ECU upgrade, cargraphic exhaust medium, Bailey DVs, RUF aluminum pedals, painted bumper pads, leather roll bar, chrome grill inserts, bumper plugs, K&N, silver emblem steering wheel, silver hood emblem

God, let me stop. I know most of you have commented on the "gold chain" set, but am I exagerating here? Heck, I was hoping to own a Boxster S, or maybe even a 993, sometime in my life, but will I have to resort to THIS kind of wallet-waving? Feel free to comment, PLEASE!

I have six cars, three are listed at Pelican and two (not the Boxster) at club914. The other 3 aren't P-cars, so they and other poeples non P cars probably don't need to be listed. Just my $.02 No equipment is listed.

Tough to diagnose what might be wrong w/someone's car if you don't know what kind of floor mats they have.

I think all bbs decorum rules should be dictated by Miles. He sets just the right balance (sorry Mr. Hendrix to imply that you are balanced...) between serious car guy data and cyncism. I don't think the guys on those other boards realize how funny/tragic we all are aout this Porsche thing. Perhaps it is our closeness to the roots of Prof. Porsches ideals that makes us a little less inclined to make a deal about what kind of floor mats we have. It also is a little bit of over reacting to the "bastard porsche" label in my case. I go out of my way to explain the significance of the VW/ Porsche association when I talk about my car.

I hate all the Yuppie yuck too.

I used to house sit for someong that had a brand new Mercedes 500sl & I ocassionally took that baby for a spin (speedo disconnected, of course). I loved driving that car but there were definate side effects - like everyone on the road staring at you & several people asking for the price. (this is when the new style first came out - 1993ish)

I have concluded that I really just wanted a sports car/convertable. Heck, I'd be happy with an MG.

It's too bad about all the price taggers out there because I would really love to have a loaded 911. Guess I will have to learn to brag first.

Vern

p.s. the 500sl is a fantastic car!!!

Some sigs do include more than I'm interested in, but they don't bother me. I've unconsciously converted all sigs to "Blah blah blah and yadda yadda yadda". I don't read 'em. I've never bothered to figure out how to do one of my own.

One thing I've noticed, both here and @ 914Club.com, is that a few of you own other P-cars (and the occasional non-P-car), but you mostly list them as a point of reference, not as rungs on a ladder.

Maybe I just started pinging over it all. I'll ease up on the danish, and cut way back on the cuban coffee.

Note that it is generally considered "good form" to keep one's signature to 4 lines or less. (Not that I'm hinting now or anything... ) All of the ones that were quoted above, that everyone was making fun of, were 4 lines or less.

Heck, if you're proud of your car and want everyone to know how well you treat it, it's no skin off'a my nose! It does, though, get tiresome when the list of "mods" gets a half-page long and is included with every post.
