ChrisBennet XCountry Tour Back At Ya!
Edit: We decided to drive back with Todd's big Chevy Tahoe April 17th to 21st. Hope we can catch some more Pelicans on the way. See page 14 for details
Update: Handed off the car Wed April 11 in San Jose. Had a great trip and met some cool folks. Hi guys, My buddy Charles and I will be delivering out friend Todd's 1980's 930 across the country this week. I'd like to meet some of you guys if I have the chance. If you are along our route maybe we can hook up for supper or something. We're leaving On April 3 and taking our time. Below is a very rough route map. Basically it shows what states we think we'll be going through. ![]() PM Me via Pelican if you'd like a visit. -Chris P.S. If this seems familiar it's because I did something like this back in 2004 Daytona to New Hampshire in a '69 911E

![]() Chris!! I'm so happy you have decided to alter you route slightly to help me out ![]() BTW, I'm about to reassemble the motor so I figure, while you are here you can simply put it all together for me ![]() I hope you don't mind, but I'll have to put you up in the garage cage as the rest of the house is off limits to strange and unknown animals. I know you are familiar with this place: ![]() I had you caged there once before and was saddened when you escaped ![]() Best regards, Michael

If you alter your plans to include Denver, well I am sure Grady and bunch of the rest of us local Denver Pelicanheads will organize a rendezvous. I have space to host you overnight if you need it. It is springtime in the Rockies so I-70 can be dicey -- but the eastern RGruppe guys survived last year. If the weather cooperates, it is a straight shot to your eventual destination with plenty of fantastic roads to drive in between as well. It is sunny and 60s today. Let us know.

Ok guys, since it's my car he's bringing out.. here's a few of the rules..
1) NO Engine drops allowed ( unless absolutley needed of course). 2) NO track time with the tracdog ( do a search on Chris Bennet and you'll see why, we JUST got him another car) 3) PLEASE feed him along the way,, he doesn't drink so he's a cheap date 4)Before you have him do anything automotive remember his moto "hey it's not my car" 5) if you do put him to work, I suggest, engine or transmission work, he's not much on electrical or turbos ( it's a strength to know your weakness, but he tends to forget his LOL) 6) Chris is happily co-habitating, but if you can get his co-pilot Charles laid, he'll be in a much better mood when they get to Carson City 7) TAKE CARE OF THESE GUYS-- I worry about them!!!

Heh! We can alter our route easily, got streets and trips loaded ;-) up!
Right now the big hits are see an old friend of mine (and get a free nights stay) in Bethesda, MD. Thats tuesday night April 3rd. Check out the big hole in the ground (aka Grande Canyon) And possibly swing by Carlsbad caverns. Chris hasn't been around the block (the USA) much so he needs a little bit o' culture :-D So we are going to bump up our route to go through Oki city,OK right now rather than through TX. See no reason why not to swing up towards Denver! Although I lurk mostly, would be fun to meet everyone. Space would be great, since the fuel on this beast is most of our budget!!!! Oh and we are planning to run the Blue Ridge parkway ... heheheh... as fast as possible... hehehehe I hear its twisty and turny... :-D Cheers! Charles |

the S side of the Canyon is noted for car break-in's although i heard they just opened a huge ramp extending out over the Canyon for walking on only. The N side is lower key afa the volume of tourists and much safer. Some of the 2 lanes outside the Canyon are a test of suspension and balls. The envelope is around 90. It's great wild west riding. Two things on Denver. Either ride Independence Pass or stop at the best buffalo restaurant in the US called "The Fort". It serves real formula Mex drinks and huge meals. It's a real Mex fort that was torn down in Mexico and rebuilt in Colorado. It's west of Denver a few hours. Check to see that Pass isn't snowed closed before hand.

tail of the dragon is the nickname give to the section of highway 129 that runs out of north carolina into tennessee, just below the smokey mt natl. park. in an eleven mile stretch there are about 318 curves of all types. it is the disneyland of roads for a 911. check it out . type in deals gap or tail of the dragon on your computer. there are also some videos available on the netweb . look up jim cesiro for some nice video too.
like i said , if you are in the area, it is an absolute must. not to be missed. Last edited by onlycafe; 04-02-2007 at 12:12 PM.. |

route is flexible, kinda of like a rusty 914
![]() But seriously, a mountain pass would be fun to be buried alive in with Chris. (Shudder, not what I call a good time!!) This is as much Chris' trip as mine, if he wants to swing through Arkansas and stay the night in Dallas, and then we swing up to Denver and then to Las Vegas etc etc its all good with me :-) I suspect when we are on the road tomorrow, we will firm up the main points and figure out the next say 2 stops :-) As they say the noisy bearing gets the grease! As Chris likes to say free lunches and places to crash take the cake! We are definitely flying by the seats of our pants here :-) Don't count out the fact that we would drive to Mexico City if it was cool to do so! :-D Charles |
