I have a PSD F350 for towing, what I think he is saying is the you can tow more than the rating, but it is not safe. That’s great it has worked out for you.
Don’t really have a dog in this fight as I just ordered my 2021 Land Cruiser so I like both Toyota’s and Fords. |

Tundra owner here. Haven't bought a vehicle produced by the "Big 4" since 1968.......(Or is it now the Big 3? Dunno, they pissed me off in the early '70's)

To the Op's question. I like the Tundra because it's non turbo. The Fords with the ecoboost can be problematic if you tow a lot. I know a few people that tow campers and had turbo issues. I like the F150 for overall comfort in a crew and for gas mileage. If I was in the market for a truck and didn't tow a lot, I'd own a new F150. The truck is really impressive IMO. Rides like a car and gets good mileage.

Concur.
The most recent vintage of F-150 I have owned was a 2005. One coil pack issue in ten years. I sold it with 170k on it. I was planning on buying another F-150 in 2015 but the local Ford dealer would not help me on price or options. I wanted a plain 4x4 crew cab truck with leather, heated seats. The local Toyota folks worked both price and configuration...I got exactly the truck I wanted: they ordered the seats and installed them in a lower trim level without all the electric stuff I was never going to use. Frankly, the Tundra is great but I bought on price since trucks really are incredible vehicles, nothing like the trucks I grew up with on the ranch. Hard to go wrong. I do tow a lot and am very satisfied, especially with the selectable tow mod on the transmission. BTW, first I have heard of towing issues with the turbo on the F-150. Good luck!

I like how aluminum and composite are “innovative” in a sports car but cheap tin cans on a truck. Sorry but you guys sometimes really lack perspective...
They are both great, anybody who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. In 2012 when I bought my last new vehicle it was between the F150 and Tundra. I felt they drove equally well and they were equally well made, but I was able to option the Ford exactly how I wanted and it was about $6k cheaper. I drove that truck to 90k without issues and then bought a 2013 with the Ecoboost and every tow option, which was also an excellent truck. I only upgraded to an F250 diesel because I regularly tow about 10,000 lb and 34’ of boat and trailer, no matter which 1/2 ton you purchase it won’t change the fact that a larger and heavier load will jerk your truck around. Can’t change physics! So I’d say to ignore the fanboys, drive them both, and see which one makes the most sense with the options you want. The domestic trucks have all caught up with Toyota in terms of quality and reliability. In my opinion a 2000-ish Toyota is actually better made and designed then a brand new one. Toyota was making some of the best cars on the planet in the 1990s and early 2000s, but has to some extent lost their way in the last 10-15 years. They still make great vehicles, but they don’t make superior vehicles.

From a reliability standpoint it's tough to argue with a truck that has more than one example where the original engine left over a million miles in the rear view mirror.

On my 4th tundra. I have never owned a Ford. In between I bought a GMC Sierra. Only kept it 8 months ( really disliked it). A little off topic but we just received our Macan S. The Porsche dealer was going to give us 14K for my wife's 2012 toyota 4runner with 90k miles. We sold it outright for $17,500. Toyota trucks really hold their value.

I'll buy an F150 again. That is if the one I bought in 2007 ever wears out, 294,00 miles, driving and looking great. I'm sure Tundras are great but, Ford is #1.

I have a 2016 F150 with 3.5 EB. The truck has 75k on the clock, the only problem I've had is a coil pack go out and give an intermittent misfire. Easy change out (these are trucks you can "shade tree mechanic" with some knowledge).
As far as towing, I have a 3k pound trailer that I can pull up The Grapevine on 5 north at 70 mph with room to spare. And that's a steep darn hill.

I’ve had 2 Tundras, a 2003 and a 2017, and have no complaints about reliability or capability. The '03 was running strong at 180k plus, but it was rusted underneath pretty bad after 14 years. Both are 4x4, used mainly for snow. I used to tow a 1800lb trailer loaded with a 23 hp tractor and snow blade with the 2003. I was out at 4:00 AM to plow the office lot before the snowplows were out. It did a great job on unplowed roads. I've never had either of them off-roading unless you count driving across the pasture.
![]() No experience with the Fords, though I looked at them before buying the 2017 Tundra. I went with the Tundra based on my experience with the '03.

Uncle Billy
My statement about the length of the bed is that I can fit more stuff in it than a 5 foot bed and is my complaint about the Tundra. Its had a lift of 1 1/8 plywood in it, two pallets of sandbags, etc many times, that's why I bought it. Travelled all over Ca in it doing installations and have slept in it many times as a result. Yes I have towed my race thousands of miles with it. Never pulled a cow out with it, did pull a Grade All out though. Mycows are smarter than that

Didn't AC/DC sing a song about the Tundra?
You know, Tundratruck..... I like the old Furd 5.0 and would probably buy that over more techy powerplants. Considering upgrading my 6.0 hd GMC for something with more pulling power.

Its like driving in your living room. Tows my race car just fine. Mine is Sinaloa Blue, El Chapo's home color
