This gets me too, not that I am preaching my standards on others- more- I just don't want so see someone get turned to hamburger meat when they spill in front of me at 80mph on the interstate.

My wife and I are still around, but only due to the fact that we were both wearing full leathers and full faced helmets - on a 90+ degree day. I cannot imagine how "that day" would have turned out had we been wearing the typical Harley riders' "uniform" - half shell helmet (we have a helmet law, otherwise most wouldn't even wear that), white tee shirt, leather vest, and blue jeans. My God... they would have cleaned us up off the road with a fire hose and a squeegee... As it was, we only suffered some (rather severe) bruising and a couple of broken and sprained wrists.

Oncoming F250 made that classic left turn in front of us. No turn signal, didn't slow down, no warning. We don't get to pick our day... ATGATT...

You have to pick the gravel ground into the bone out with forceps. Brush works fine on the soft tissue.

Oh yeah, please wear boots that go over the ankle too

I was definitely hooked and watched until the end.

Suspected it was a cycling safety campaign, and according to the website it is indeed. People from the cycling nations - Denmark, the Nederlands and so on - don't tend to wear helmets. Most of them don't even wear lycra or any other special clothes! (gasp) Reminds me of a joke I heard on one of the Ewan McGregor / Charley Boorman shows: you can always tell British and German motorcyclists by their Hi-Vis vest.

After watching my then 6 year old daughter somersault, cartwheel, slide headfirst on her back and hit a rock, which restarted the cartwheeling all over again, and eventually got over a cliff on Desperado (the ski run with the most vertical drop in North America) and walk away with a simple fracture to her pelvis and nothing else (no concussion, no spinal damage), I am a big believer in a correct fitting helmet. That helmet was toast afterwards with gauged and a big dent from the rock she hit but it saved her life.

There are lots of places to save money. A helmet is not one of them.

John Condren used to say at the drivers meeting before Chump Car races, ‘if your have a $50 head, get a $50 helmet.’

I think the helmet/ no helmet thing is starting to change a bit. Even seeing more and more 1%ers around here wearing full face.

When I went down on my GSXR back in the late 80s, if I did'nt have a full face on, I definitely would have suffered some serious face damage. The whole chin piece and forehead area was ground through to the foam, shield ripped off...
Even so, I'm still guilty of wearing a half shell or brain bucket every once in awhile.

These are the 'loud pipes saves lives' group. Loud bikes, zero safety gear.

Used to commute on motobike. One glorious spring morning about 4 blocks from house was really excited by the day, air smelled so good, sun on the cascades, fresh wind in my hair... wait... oh jeese. Totally forgot the helmet. Rode home and got it. Thats the only time I rode without one but man was it nice.

Sold the bike a few years later because after 7 years commuting I found a car in my blind spot with the head check before changing lanes. Happened again a month later. Both little grey cars. No idea how those cars got there but that was it I was out. No business riding in traffic when I can't keep track of the cars around me.

Around here the "sport bike" riders are usually in shorts, no shirt and flip flops. Most Harley riders have a leather jacket and god helmet. The "hog" riders wear whatever fell off the truck going to Goodwill.

I prefer a car body around me, and a good AC system or heater in the winter. The car keep me dry in the rain, and I arrive at my destination comfortable and happy.

Just my preference.

zakthor's post reminded me of the time I pulled out of my driveway and got to 3rd gear before it dawned on me my helmet was still where I had set it down 'for a second ' while i adjusted something.
I remember the feeling I got was about the same as realizing your car had gone into a slide on a snowy road.
The one time I went down I was very glad for the face shield and my gloves. Glad i got the speed off before low siding. Ruined a good jeans jacket. Wore leather after that.
Best

Sometimes when I ride around the yard picking up fallen branches I don't wear a helmet. I do all other times.
