As for headlights getting cloudy again, periodic re-polishing might take you all of two minutes, if you didn’t want to try and coat them with something. If you don’t let them get to the stage where they are half opaque, it takes next to nothing to get them clear again.
It’s like washing your car or cleaning the insides of your windows. It’s just routine maintenance. Or you can buy a car that doesn’t suffer from this crap to begin with, there’s a thought. Last edited by javadog; 12-15-2021 at 12:31 PM.. |

Update: Installed some 9012's in the Land Cruiser's 9006 (I think? Low Beam)sockets last night. A simple clip of the plastic tab around the bulb made it fit nicely.
Nice and bright. Yay. Have some LED's to put into the subaru. I suspect that re-aiming is very much in the future. Thank you all! |

entertaining the idea

I put LEDs in my 2018 Subaru Impreza. Very easy. I did adjust them down a bit.
You will be much happier with the LEDs.

Took a picture from the driver seat before I left work tonight.
LED headlights with a 18” LED light bar behind the grill. The light bar only comes on with the high beams, and is what really makes the difference.

New "glass" and perfect reflectors.... or your lights will not give you what they should
Here's a pair of new H1 headlights that I made for "our" vintage Porsche's. The bulbs are only 55 watt halogens, relays installed, on hi-beam. Don't need LED's.....

Just an additional comment regarding bulb types... LEDs work great on reflectors, but not the case through projectors. If the bulb you are replacing is behind a projector and new halogen bulbs don't solve the issue, then go for HID (xenon) bulbs. Another thing to take into consideration is the lumen output and the color temperature of the bulbs (5K is supposed to give an impression of brighter light).

Agree. I used the 3M lens renewal kit on my former 2008 Cayenne and the result was amazing. Kit was about $15 and included all the abrasives needed, a drill attachment, and the clear coat to make it last and look perfect. Highly recommend, especially when the alternative replacement lenses cost $800 or so a piece.

I renewed mine and it took a lot longer than 15 minutes!

We got turned on the aircraft landing lights for high beams on the E21s. Pencil beams, but OMG.

I used the 3M kit and the results last 6 months to a year. I went online to Rock Auto and bought a brand new pair of headlights (all bulbs included) for the old Subaru Baja. $50/each (TYC brand with favorable reviews). It makes a huge difference. Driving at night is super bright. I could barely see anything out of the old ones.
And of course I took it up a 16 mile dirt road in the mountains after our last rain storm, so I have to share that. The AWD is amazing on these. ![]() ![]() ![]()
