My favorite version of 'Southern Pacific'. Turn it up!

He's been big into trains for years. I would love to see a video of his model train set-up.

Some actors from the 60's have zero respect from me for the same reason.

From the Stills-Young band in hs, and earlier 70s stuff, both acoustic and rockin' with Crazy Horse, Neil was definitely a "soundtrack of my youth" guy. Never saw him live, but heard him live hundreds of times .... Live Rust !

When Neil & Crazy Horse rocked ... they rocked like few others did, and Neil with just an acoustic didn't suck either ..... couldn't pick favorites either.

Making mistakes 60 years ago doesn't define a person.
Neil connected with Manson about music...does that make him the same?

Agreed but only if they recant the mistakes instead of continue to make the same ones now.
IMO he is more political now. As someone else said in this thread, please just play music.

Neil's always been political. And I doubt if he has a single eff left to give to anyone who wants to call him out on it. I'd be willing to bet that those of you who have written him off because "he's too political" might have felt a little differently back when he got slammed by the liberal press because he went on record as a champion of some of Ronald Reagan's ideas. (But everyone here already knows about that, right?)

There's a lot of family farmers living in red states that have been given a helping hand with the money Neil and Willie have raised for farm aid, fighting against factory farms and massive chemical corporations who may or may not have the best interests of the consumers at heart. I doubt if Neil sees left and right when he's putting those shows together.

Bottom line, his music is popular and he has a microphone and he uses it to share his thoughts. I like how he speaks his mind and how his beliefs have evolved, and isn't worried if those ideas and thoughts don't necessarily line up with the thoughts of people on the left and the right.

Today he doesn't like what Joe Rogan is saying. Maybe tomorrow he won't like what Obama or Gavin Newsome is talking about, but he'll tell you what he thinks and he won't worry about what side the pushback is coming from.

And that's all you'll get from me on that. I hope this thread doesn't go to p.a.r.f.

Art's value is in how it makes you feel when you see or hear it. Sometimes the intended feeling is not butterflies and warm breezes and pixie dust. Artists sometimes make us look at things that are not pretty. Like slavery. Be repulsed. He probably intended that, despite his curious apology.

I happen to appreciate Mr. Young's unwashed, unbleached style of songwriting and also his style of speaking. Some of the folks next door don't keep their mouths shut. I do not hold Fint and Neil to different standards. They both can say what they want.

There seems to be no shortage of public personalities making incendiary statements these days. Neil seems tame by comparison with some others. So yeah, I wonder why we are throwing him under the bus here. Or anybody.

I actually think he’s a great musician. I like a lot of his work. But it just p***es me off when musicians use their music as a vehicle to push their politics. Because he has a microphone he is able to push his thoughts on others. Neil Young is a much better musician than I am. I very much doubt he is wiser, more astute, or better educated than me, or you. Quite possibly less. Same goes for athletes, movie stars, and other types of celebrity.

Dave, I hear you and you have the right to be torqued off because he chooses to air his beliefs even after he's finished recording albums.

We all have that right, the right to disagree with the man with the microphone.

I like them all. Went to a few Bridge School concerts. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is probably my favorite album.
I remember a surf movie with "Cowgirl in the Sand" as one of the soundtrack songs. It was back in the 70's and really fit that part of the movie.

Can't remember which movie but it's stuck with me over the years.

That same movie IIRC also had Eddie Harris and Les McCann's "Compared to What".....which also stuck with me over the years.....
