Garage

Our poor abused dogs have to lay in the sunbeam on the living room carpet to keep warm. They are too weak from hunger to stand up.

Here is further proof they are abused, their mamma went out front and just abandoned them for over a full 2 minutes!

The final straw! We keep the dog food in a plastic storage tub, along with the doggie treats in our laundry room. If my wife is doing laundry, she really should be giving out treats on every single trip into the laundry room. At least in the dog's minds. Proof of the horrible abuse they suffer through. Only occasional treats are handed out. They follow her around everywhere, ready to protect her from all attacks from lions, bears, giraffes, mastodons and such. So far they are 100% in keeping her safe. They have chased off all of those beasts from our part of the city!

We've had a New Years day tradition of getting out some where for a walk.

We had snow a few days before Christmas and our son had to drive home from here to LA for the 2nd year in a row because Seatac sucks at snow ops.
The weather warmed and all the lowland snow melted, we had a partly sunny balmy 45 degrees for a trip to the Kukutali Preserve near Snee Oosh.
87 acres managed by the Swinomish tribe and Parks department.

A 2 mile loop across a tombolo, up onto and around Kiket island to another tombolo and Flagstaff point with views, and more views.
Flagstaff point is being re planted and protected, we gotta go back at low tide for beach access.

Great way to start the year!

Hello tombolo #1

Always finding beach treasures, no vertebra or teeth, this time

Where'd you see the huge piece of obsidian?

I am indeed lucky to be here in the PNW for a good long time now.
My Dad took a job at the Boeing factory in Everett helping build the 1st 747's back in 1967.
Almost a year later he came back to Wichita packed up the family in a brand spankin new '68 Pontiac Catalina station wagon pulling a boat he had saved from the dump and rebuilt in the garage.
That was my first cross-country adventure. Saw all kinds of stuff on the way... Dad was not a point A the point B kind of guy. I got my love of adventure, travel and being outside from him.

Steve, the obsidian is from the Ochoco National forest area smack dab in the middle of Oregon- East of Sisters and Bend within the Newberry Caldera.
Lot's to see and do with lake Paulina, Paulina Falls and Paulina peak at 7984' and "the big obsidian flow" all doable in a day or two.

The big obsidian flow is surreal, mixed with the jet black glass is pumice, I'd think the geologic processes that form one would be way different than the other.
Nope, wrong again.

Boulders of solid obsidian all over the hill side... don't fall down, the boulders are not friendly.

That's just part of a labyrinth of obsidian and pumice stretching over miles of territory

Fascinating area, on top of a slumbering volcano

You are welcome!
Glad some seem to like em!

Some individual time lapse photos from today.
Sunny and gorgeous today, on up Hiway 530 past Darrington and up the still off and on snowy Suiattle river road.

About 10 miles in the snow was deep enough for a belly rub... time to turn around.
Tons of tree debris, most cleaned up or driven over enough to make a path.
A couple chunks needed to be moved for safe passage.

3 other vehicles up there, all 4X4's. They looked at me a little funny

Headed up the Mark Clark bridge in Charleston, I saw these guys working off a crane, on a barge. That high up working next to powerlines would be a no go for me.

Just returned from a week on Hilton Head Island SC for New Year's. These are pics of the Moon at sunrise taken from Shelter Cove behind Kroger looking west over Broad Creek. Pics do not do it justice - it was stunning.

I got a bow for Christmas. I'm getting better, but still a long way to go. I'm having a blast. I got a bow for Christmas when I was 13, I think. Unfortunately, I didn't get any sort of direction or assistance on how to shoot it, so I didn't enjoy it or pursue it.
