Alldata is a system which provides Spec and Troubleshooting info for the majority of (modern) cars out there. It was originally marketed to mechanics and repair shops on a regularly distributed set of CDs. One could look up and print assembly diagrams, recall info, common problems, repair procedures and repair duration for costing jobs. While I believe it may still be available via CD the service is also available on their website on a subscription basis. They have a pretty attractive pricing structure for the DIYer as well. BTW, a copy of the CD set is useless without the Alldata hardware lock that plugs into the parallel port.

I saw his post the first time and decided it was obvious he didn't know how to use SEARCH.... just like the guy with INSURANCE questions yesterday or how about 50 yokels trying to figure out what's the best way to POLISH their FUCHS!!!!! or PAINT their FANS.

search this---
will the search function ever have ALL of the info any of us would ever need? if so would it make the only area worth visiting the "off topic" forum? what if every question to be asked here in the future has an answer in the "search" area? would we kill the BBS process? what if you put "search" in the search box? would the whole place implode? would it create a BBS blackhole of sorts? would we all spiral out of control and could the world as we know it possibly end? how come only the new guys get the "try the search" hammer dropped on them? why do you guys drool all over another thread of pictures showing the same car we've all seen before, again and again? If i wanted to see a certain black car and requested pictures would you guys give me the "search" hammer? just some questions i thought might not be in the archived thread area. will somebody tell me to try "search" for answers to these and other of life's pressing, life, or death questions?

This site is great and the search engine works fine but what this site needs is an index and someone to maintain it. The problem is the search results are listed chronologically displaying the newest posts first while some of the greatest threads and resources on this board are buried in the search results a couple pages deep.
I personally have several pages bookmarked of old threads to make up my own mini index. That way I don't have to search and I can easily help others find the info they need.
