The refs and the NHL stole the game from the Preds. Read the rules, their goal should have been reviewed, rules have an established process.

DaveE 06-12-2017 11:11 AM

Here we go.........

"The puck is sitting openly in the crease prior to the unheard whistle, but the referees ruled in their huddle that Sissons did not make contact with it to send it into the net until after the whistle. That means the play was ineligible for video review.

These things can be awfully close, which begs the question of whether the referees could correctly gauge when Sissons got the puck versus when the whistle was blown, and whether a review could help there. In October, the Flames were given a goal that had been waved off, and it’s not abundantly clear Michael Frolik makes contact prior to the whistle. So there’s precedent to at least review something like that if it’s really close.
But if the referees were convinced the whistle came before Sissons’ contact, they followed Rule 38.4 properly."

38.4 (viii)
They could have reviewed and should have.

Go cry with Joe.

Yup refs & the NHL stole it.

Doesn't matter the Preds had a 4-0 edge in power plays, (0 for the last 8), one being a 3 on 5 for 32 seconds. Doesn't matter the Preds did not score a goal for over the last 125 minutes. And it doesn't matter Renne should have gotten an interfence penalty against Haglen, (sure wrap around goal?).

While I'm at it what a bore the Nashville fans are. Throwing things on the ice and at the Pens players. Show some class Nashville, if you have any.

Enjoy Joe's company I'm sure he's a hoot.

Good goaltending battle between 'the rookie' & big Pekka. It was a shame the ref's ballsed-up with the quick whistle call on the Preds - may have altered the complexion of the game. I had thought with about 3 mins. left, the game was then for all intents & purposes, akin to sudden death. I was also hoping for a good clean goal but we ended up with a bit of a 'cheeseball' tally. That's sports forya!! It has been good fun gents - have a safe & healthy summer & see you in about 4 mos. Till then....

Cheers
JB

That is only the case if there was doubt about Sisson making contact with the puck prior to the whistle. The referee's application of the rule was correct.

You should also read 38.2, because by rule it was reviewed:

Quote:

38.2
Goals
– Every goal is to be reviewed by the Video Goal Judge.
Upon making contact with the off-ice official at ice level, the Video
Goal Judge should say initially that he is “looking at the play”. If there
is a need to delay the resumption of the play, the off-ice official at ice
level should signal one of the Referees to delay the center ice face-off
for a moment. Once the Video Goal Judge has reviewed the video
and confirmed that the goal is valid, he should say that “it is a good
goal”. The off-ice official will then signal to the Referee to resume play.

If you were to dispute the goaltender interference ruling on the winning goal you might have more people agreeing with you.

What a bummer, I was hoping for a game 7 at least.

Another year of Penguins with the cup... I feel ill.

The real class act of the night was Captain Crosby NOT leading the handshake line. One of the younger Pens stepped up and showed him how to be a man.

Bowling 06-12-2017 07:05 PM

^ again, and making Betman wait to receive the Conn Smythe. Class act for an A'hole. Of course the goal would have made a difference Buck, to your point the Officiating was terrible. Enjoy your tainted cup, can't wait till next year boys.

1990C4S 06-12-2017 07:06 PM

Let these other captains know they are low class too.

2008 - Yzerman

2012 - Brown

2013 - Toews

2014 - Brown

2015 - Toews went first

2016 - Crosby went first.

So true. The NHL is good place to be a 'hater', the odds of the player you hate should winning are roughly one in thirty. Just don't pick a great player, he might keep on winning. And that might ruin your life.

Nothing tainting this Cup my friend. It is as sweet, if not sweeter due to all the injuries, than the previous 4.

flatbutt 06-13-2017 06:17 AM

IMO the Cup is never tainted. This trophy is the most fiercely fought for in all the sporting world. And ice hockey is the truest sport when it comes to being "a game of inches". So a questionable call by an official trying to control such a match cannot taint the Cup...IMHO.

Agreed....

As much as I loath the Pens there is no denying they're a great team. I take no issue with the Preds goal being disallowed in game 6. I thought it was pretty clear the whistle had blown. Whether it was a quick whistle or not is a moot point.

Now this talk about this Pens squad (15/16 and 16/17) being one of the all time great teams.... LOL .... ahhh I don't think so. I would rank the Pens early 90's team as better and neither of them as good as the mid 80's Oilers, or late 70's Habs, maybe even the early 80's Islanders. Mind you as a Flyer fan my guys lost to all three of those teams in a finals series so its not like I exactly like those teams.

On a more important hockey note... at 52 years old and my back mostly recovered I am feeling pretty limber on the ice these days and I am doing a rehab assignment in the over 40 B league in prep for getting back to the A league this fall!!!

1990C4S 06-13-2017 09:06 AM

The Pens are a great cap era team. Nothing more.

The above quote was from last year.

This year twice on the NHL channel it was mentioned about hockey players not wearing google while enjoy the spoils.

I'm with you Trader. I hate, (well dislike immensely), the Patriots but I respect their winning ways. (All except the cheating :D).
Hope you make it!
