Bought one while they are still legal...and yes, I hope the Prius drivers enjoy the exhaust tuned to sound like the exhaust of the movie car...
I'm also happy that my old much loved car is safely out of "obamanation", safely away from future crusher laws.

It's just a cute little F-250 Supercab short bed, thank you.
![]() New diesels actually burn pretty clean, even w/ sensible mods. My problem is with mental midgets who modify them to over-fuel just to belch-out black smoke. Aside from being an ass hole to the environment, every decent gearhead on earth knows that unburned fuel is wasted power and efficiency. When I'm next to some old poser muscle car that smells like a leaking gas pump, I want to invite the guy over to my shop and teach them a thing or two about tuning and setting-up a car. They have no idea how much HP is sitting there on the table, or rather pissing out their tail pipe.

yeah ShaunDenis, of course I too cringe from the fuel rich idiots, but enough about those MFI guys. (ducking) The thing is, you do drive a big thirsty truck. You have used up resources on the track, and just having fun. If we just stand aside and let politicians create a new religion of zealot green police everyone loses. ...well except the high living, jet-setting politicians. The prius... these people could afford what they like. They are not buying such an expensive car to be frugal. (a rabbit diesel would do that on every metric)

Shaun, you are obviously a very frugal guy ... where's your Prius?
My neighbor (a Microsofty) has two. (does that make 'em twice as frugal?)

HOOT! I now know for certain you've been around MFI cars...they need to run rich in order to avoid holing pistons during extended high revs running....or so I was told.

Well, I only carry a gun on my belt in AZ to scare all the smug, liberal whiners with CA plates on their Priuses. And I do it on a bike that gets far better mileage than any Prius, causes far less wear on the roads, uses less than half as much rubber and I can park it just about anywhere for free. I'll take a bike over a Prius any day. I think I'm gonna go pour some oil down the drain now.

This doesn't make any sense.
Prius drivers are criticized for creating less polution, and saving disposable income for other uses? Think about that the next time a loved one becomes ill, or is out of a job. What is so "liberal" about more efficient technowlogy?

Almost a reality.
Last summer we were going to Barber for a NESBA motorcycle track day. At the last minute my brother gets called away on business, but will fly into Bham and meet us at the track Friday night. I get stuck driving the DP tuner chipped and piped F350 and 24' enclosed with 5 bikes and all our stuff to Alabama. My brother makes it to the track late and the rental car company gave him a Prius which he absolutely hated. I actually thought it was kind of neat, silently moving around the paddock. After the days fun and dinner we needed to return the Prius. My brother hopped in it and I fired up my beast. I have stock, light tow, heavy tow and a 80hp econ tune. The 80 econ will smoke a nice initial cloud when I really burry the pedal. The evening was quite comfortable by summer in Alabama standards, so my little brother in the Prius had his windows down and I formulated a plan. I had the second set of doors alongside the Prius before the noise tipped him off. So, so close. We had a great time beating up on each other on the track too.

Yes. (every engineer does those )
So now how does a big utility vehicle and sport bike equal a Prius? ..cost? ...function? Im not seeing it.

The Ducati gets about ~40 MPG, not quite as good as the Prius, but has a much smaller environmental impact, due to the lower production cost, and lack of expensive Nickel-metal hydride batteries and having them shipped halfway around the world a few times. Italy is closer to the United states than Japan, plus the lower weight of the motorcycle means it used less fuel to ship the bike to Shaun. He will ride the Ducati most of the time, limiting the use of the less economical 4-Runner to times when the added utility is necessary. The 4-Runner can best be described as a rusted-out-basket-case, and a less environmentally conscious individual would simply scrap it. Shaun, being the strict environmentalist he is, sourced the parts to repair the truck and return it to the road, thereby deferring the manufacturing costs (and associated environmental impact)of a new truck to replace it for several years, and saving it from a trip to the scrapyard. I am glad to see Shaun is putting the planet first. ![]() Plus, chicks dig motorcycles. Granted, some chicks also dig the Prius, but they are probably the type that don't shave their pits. ![]() Tom |

Guess I am one of those "natural resources waster" because I drive a BIG pickup truck. Never mind that it gets better gas mileage than most cars (27 highway) and uses diesel. Bring that oil over to my place and pour it into our BioDiesel rig. Ya know, the one that is solar powered and produces fuel for my big terrible truck for less than $1.00 a gallon out of waste materials. Joe, look at the bright side. When all those batteries in your yard are no longer serviceable, they'll be recycled and the lead used for shotgun pellets, which will probably be banned in CA soon enough. Maybe if CA has more Priuses and passes more silly gun laws, it will eventually alleviate the ammo shortages for the rest of us in what's left of free Amerika.
