Morning Gents.

Joe, saw Christmas Tree decorations yesterday, all pretty and bling, and they were Cigars!!! So funny.

Jeff, hope you are feeling better, and aren't still nodding off. My family suffers from Kidney Stones, so I am not looking forward to that scenario, but your symptoms of lower back pain and everything sound like what they get, both my Mum and Dad get them, Dad passes one every couple of months, definitely something wrong there, I suspect that he doesn't drink enough water, if its not coffee or tea, its not getting past his lips, lol. Water is for fish to pee in!!!!

time to get off the couch and do something

Good morning folks. I drink plenty of fluids. I don't worry about kidney stones. My brother had a stone a few years back. He was working in the summer heat all day for an entire summer and not drinking enough water. I sit in my office chair and after two cups of coffee in the morning I drink water all day.

Glen, did you do any time tests before you swapped out computers?

I understand you manipulate 1 gig files, but what do you do to get them that big and once that big, what do you do with them in Photoshop?

GH85Carrera 12-18-2012 06:24 AM

The one gig files start life that way. We shoot aerial negatives and the film is 9 inches wide. Each frame of film is 9x9 inches. We scan them at 12 micron or 2,116 PPI with a photogrammetric scanner. The reason they are so big is we cover a lot of area at high resolution. I am working on a photo of clients property right now. They own about one square mile of property and are developing the area. They will want a print of each 1/4 section of the property at a scale of one inch = one hundred feet. They might want just a 40 acrea area at 1'=50'. To make that a sharp & detailed image the overall area and each 1/4 section the raw scan is 19702 pixels x 19702 pixels overall.

The final image of the entire square mile will have a pixel resolution of over 1/2 foot per pixel. The easy to understand explanation is that if the customer wanted a print that was one square mile in size (OK no one wants a print 5,280 x 5,280 feet across) each pixel of the image would cover 6 inches. When the print is made at logical sizes like 3 feet x 3 feet the detail is very high, and we can print 1/16th mile of area and still have high detail.

All we do with Photoshop is tweak the color of the image from the scanner & remove the occasional dust spot. We scan the film very flat or low contrast to get all the detail in shadows and highlights. It is easy to add contrast. If the image starts contrasty and the shadows are just solid black and the highlights blown out there is no way to fix that.

Morning all. Winter break for the kids starts 1/2 day early. We have snow.

GH85Carrera 12-18-2012 06:30 AM

Dave, the old computer running XP pro and 4 gigs of RAM. It is a 3.2 Ghz dual core Pentium 4.

The new one is a quad Core i5 3.3 GHz with 32 gig of ram.

The old system takes 45 seconds to rotate the one gig image, the new one does it is 3 seconds.

You said the bad four letter S work. I may have to report that post! Yuck.

Porsche-poor 12-18-2012 06:37 AM

It gets worse even with the four letter s word I still have to go to the four letter w word.

Porsche-poor 12-18-2012 07:27 AM

GH85Carrera 12-18-2012 09:23 AM

Porsche-poor 12-18-2012 09:42 AM

Thanks Azzy. It had them quite baffled. I presented with the signs of having a stone; intense pain, nausea, fever, sweaty (although everyone's sweaty here), but as they went through the tests - nada. They even wired me up and did a ECG. CT showed no evidence of me having or ever passing a stone. They said my blood work was clear (of what I have no idea). The blood in the urine had them raise the possibility that it still may have been the passing of a stone. In the end, I suspect that mostly they thought it was a virus. Still having some pain in the kidney region.

Never had stones before, and if that wasn't a stone then I don't think I want to if that's the pain you get. Like you Glen, I don't drink much tea or coffee, mostly water.

Morning/Afternoon/Evening all.

I haven't seen that s stuff for a while, maybe we'll get some at the end of the world?

Outback Porsche 12-18-2012 11:46 AM

Oh crap! the alarm has just gone off. Time to get my arse out of the fart sack, and get ready for that w place :(

porsche4life 12-18-2012 11:52 AM

Bleh..... I was doing that W thing for an hour before daybreak today.... Not cool

Porsche-poor 12-18-2012 12:10 PM

YAWN! And its only noon.

Jim Richards 12-18-2012 01:31 PM

We had a Christmas party this afternoon. The sugar shock from all the baked goodies is hammering me right about now. Tomorrow is another one (different part of our organization). I'm going to have to pull a tweeze and run a half marathon or two just to keep my lithe figure. :D

porsche4life 12-18-2012 01:49 PM

Need..... Nap.... Badly.....

Outback Porsche 12-18-2012 03:13 PM

Who's a naughty little elf then?

Rick V 12-18-2012 03:17 PM

Evening Y'all, done with the W word for the day and as long as Pete stays out of my state I hopefully won't see the S word and be forced to use the F word
